Wiring driving lights to come on with brights

I had a 2000 Tundra and I wired the PIAA's relay to the bright light wire on the headlamps. Worked great. On my 2005 Tundra I wired it in the same way this weekend. However, the 05 has the DRL's and when they come on a start up the PIAA's come on also. I don't want that. If you then turn the headlamps on and off the PIAA's go off and work as they should when you turn the brights on. Any idea how to get around the DRL's kicking the PIAA relay switch on at start up? Is there a way to disable the DRLs?

How about wiring the lights up to the high beam instead of the low beam? That way the extra lights only come on when you really need the light and you don't have to worry about them being on while driving around in normal traffic.

The PIAA's relay is wired into the high beam only. However, something with the DRL (daytime running lamps) is triggering the PIAA's relay when the truck is started. They work as designed (to come on with the high beam only) once you physically turn the lights on and then off.

Did you wire them up to the ground side of the high beam wire? You might be getting some power through the ground wire and turning on the relay. I'd have to see it to be sure what the problem is. Might some rectifier diodes are needed.

It is connected to the hot side of the high beams. The gournd is common with the low beams so that would not work. I spoke with a service tech at my local dealership today and he said the PCM is programed to send a signal to all the lights at start up and this is triggering the relay on the PIAAs. He said they can reconfigure the computer to not send the signal and they can permanently turn off the DRLs but that would cost at least $200 for the programming and they have never done it before. I am not too excited about that.

You could stick an ammeter on there to see which direction the current is flowing.

I found out the only way around it was to install a switch on a switch to keep them from coming on with the DRLs. It works fine as you can control them with the high beam switch but you have to remember to turn on the PIAA switch to activate them.
