Got my oil changed yesterday having gone 5k miles with all oem oil & filter used thus far (at 16k miles). This was the first time I had let it get over 3k miles (Per dealership), but there was a distinct difference in how it drove and sounded after the change. I'm going to just keep changing at 3k even with new oils out there as I havent heard of a single "break through" in oil filters in years.
