Question Hmmmm let's see: replace timing belt or just replace the Tundra?

Well, my 4.7L was fast approaching the dreaded 90K mark where you should change the timing belt. After receiving 2 estimates averaging right around the $1K mark and not wanting to to do the job myself (way out of my league), I started thinking about replacing the truck.

My kids are getting older and taller so the Crewmax with a $3K rebate started looking appealing. I went and talked with my dealer and worked out a deal on a 2010 CM with the 5.7L (which will not require expensive maintenance @ 90K miles)!!

The 5.7L engine is great and the rear seat room is cavernous!!

Here are some pics I took at delivery:

Congrats on the new truck! And I saw you picked that new color. You planning some of the same mods?

Congrats...any excuse (timing belt, bigger kids, etc) to get a new toy is good for me. It looks good and hopefully serves you and the family well for well over 90k.

Awesome, didn't realize the 5.7 does not require the tb replacement at 90. way cool, I've had my 0-10 for a month and have over 7k already, maybe I will drive it for more than 2 years afterall

TXTUNDRA, the 5.7 has a timing "chain" instead of a belt and does not need to be replaced..................

It will need to be replaced sometime. Chains will stretch over time and cause the timing to be off. The belts do not stretch, but they do wear out and break.
