Thats some hi-tech stuff. Years ago I did an experiment for our Toyota customers to be able to see the importance of using the correct application of lubricants in the extreme cold. I took a bunch of dixie cups and poured oil into each one. 15w 40, 10w 40, straight 30 W, 10 W 30, 5W 30, and some Mobil 1 Syn 10 W 30, and 5W 30. I then took different weight gear oils and poured them into dixie cups. 85 W 140, 75 W 90, straight 90W and some synthetic 75 W 90's. All these dixie cups were left outside overnight in about -50 F temps. And the next day you could literally pick up most of the cups and turn them upside down and they would not even flow, the thicker oils (15W 40 engine oil and 85W 140 gear oil) were like caramel. I used this little project to show folks that there are better options for their vehicle for our climate to reduce mechanical failures. And then asked them to imagine whats going on in their engines dring a cold start with the thicker oils and it explained why their vehicles roll so slow at -50 and almost feel like their e-brake is on. It was pretty cool. The Mobil 1 gear oils and engne oils flowed the best at those temps and in turn is what I have always run in my vehicles.
