    Stock air box mod

Over the weekend I installed the sabm kit, TRD filter, intake flow accelerator....and the truck moves way better than it did with my volant! My longtube headers don't hurt either!....lol. The acceleration from a dead stop is amazing...at mid rpms....it's a fn monster!

I thought about cutting out the ****ty middle section and just putting a straight 3" or 3.5" tube straight to throttle body...I hate that stupid box connected to the middle section...if I can't figure out a simple solution, I'm just going to buy the TRD CAI...I'm hoping to have one of the setups I just mentioned in the next week....I also deleted the screen thing in the throttle body, it doesn't whistle anymore...

Interested in hearing long term results from you.

    Tox,

I had the "intake flow accelerator" and stock air box with the TRD filter for 2 weeks now. My low end performance was back instantly. It was a noticeable difference, right away in how the truck performed. I only installed the sabm kit over the weekend. Ill see how it performs in the long run. I definitely missed the sound of the Volant with my exhaust...With my current setup, the intake is a little louder than stock.

I'm leaning towards buying the TRD CAI...I can afford $400 easily, but I can't justify such a high price point for an intake...I'll probably buy it anyway...

I'll keep you guys posted on this mod. The engine definitely feels like it breathes easier, pulls harder, and it definitely is super responsive. If it doesn't work or hurts performance in the long run...I'll just slide a plate between the fender and the second 3" tube and problem solved....

It was pretty cool cutting into the fender...most people would freak out cutting a hole in their baby!...lol

does anyone have any ideas on what kind of material I can use to make a straight 3" pipe? or whatever this diameter is of the stock pipe is. I basically want to cut all along the hard plastic and reuse the rubber pieces on each side with the clamps. This way it will make it much easier for me to tie into factory components...if I cant come up with a solution, Ill just buy the TRD CAI, but I at least want to try for the hell of it...seems simple enough, I just dont know what type of plastic, metal, rubber or what I should use for that little section...thanks in advance

What are you going to do about your vacuum lines? And the TRD CAI won't be any different. It use that stock part. The CAI only replaces the upper box on the stock intake.

Good call on the vacuum lines, still thinking about it....but the trd cai replaces that tube in my above picture. Also do you have any suggestions on the vacuum lines if I attempt this myself?

Sorry, didn't recall the big red replacement tube.

There's bound to be some kind of large rubbery radiator tubing used on an 18 wheeler or something that would work. Take the part by NAPA and see what they got. As for attaching the vacuum line, I'm not really sure.
Oh yeah, there are those DIY CAI kits where you piece together the intake tube. But they aren't that cheap.

thanks, that's exactly what I want. that simple, just a 3.5" or 3.75" straight pipe....12" long on the dot.

do you guys think this would work, although I wouldn't spend $75 on this...but similar type of material.
