I went and measured both just now. The outer circumference of the Volant tube appears to be 12.25". The stock tube section goes from 14" closer to the box down to about 12" at the TB. So the two tubes are about the same size. As for cutting and patching, it doesn't look like it will work. The angle on the stock tube coming off the TB is wrong if you want them to match up in the middle. I took a few pictures to show how far it is off. It could be twisted and turned to work, but when you start twisting and turning the rubber stock tube too much, then your round tube becomes an oval tube. Plus there's that big useless box on the side of the intake for the vacuum hoses. Maybe use the rubber part of the stock tube on one end and the Volant rubber end on the TB end. Seems like too much work just to avoid lifting the front of the engine cover. The included spacer works fine and is barely noticeable.

Here's some pics. First one shows the different angles coming off the TB for the two different intakes.

The next one, I tried to line up how the stock intake is run compared to the Volant. Both are lined up pretty straight and the stock one is even with how it would be positioned on the TB. Sorry it's blurry.

And here is how mine fits under the engine cover with the included spacer installed:

Toxarch,

I believe that your installation is perfect

but I stil haven't decided to go for a Volant air intake

How would you compare TRD drop-in filter to Volant CAI ?

Performance
Reliability
Sound

Thanks,
Bob

I haven't noticed any change. Course, I haven't put a lot of mileage on the truck since then. Maybe 1200 miles and about 300 of it I was resetting the computer cause I was disconnecting the battery every few days to work on mods. No gain, no loss. Though the intake is louder under acceleration and it made the exhaust louder too. One of the other guys with more miles on their Volant might be able to say.

I had a volant on my expedition, and loved it. also I was able to use it with the Kenne Bell supercharger after I installed it on my expedition. wonder if its posible to fit volant with TRD supercharger?
I wouldnt want to spend over $300 bucks on volant if I cant use it with the charger, I am sure its better breathing then the one that comes with trd charger, by looking at the pictures of installed charger it looks like the tubeing would need to be moded. If it cant I will hold on to the $ for the charger.

Was a bit confused about the engine cover extension. With the pictures, no further explanation was needed. Many thanks Tox!
