Intakes -- aFe vs. Volant

I need a little help here...

I'm removing my Airaid and selling it because its too damn loud. I want the Volant because its quiet (relatively), has the powercore filter, and is a group buy item. The aFe, however, seems to be getting the better press (at least over on TS).

Any ideas here?

To early to tell, Don't think anyone here took delivery of their Volant yet.

I had a Volant in my Titan, The only complaint I had with it was the vibration noises in the intake box. Hopefully we won't have this issue with this one. Performance wise it was awesome.

Is this their new dry-filter? If so, how does one clean it?

The AirAid and K&N's, being the oiled type, have cleaning kits - which I prefer.

Says you don't have to clean it for 100,000 miles. Not too sure about that though.

i ordered the volant too but am having second thoughts if an after market intake will even make any difference on the tundra, the stock intake seems pretty hard to improve upon.

I think all you have to do is drop a new filter in the stock CAI and be good to go. Only way to improve it would be to stick a ram air intake on it.

We will have to see with the Dyno results. I have seen many Dynos where a CAI and Exhaust make a measurable difference...just haven't seen what they will do for the 5.7 Tundra.

I agree here. Toyota has done a good job improving the volumetric efficiency of the engine by reducing pumping losses. Evident in the stock 4-2-1 headers and the Large intake box with a short ram intake tube.

I bought the intake for a little more sound, top end scoot (can probably also be acheived with just a high flow filter), AND to prep for the supercharger which will definitely require more air flow rate.

I've been watching the scangauges intake air temp monitor. It's usually 10 degrees (c) higher than the outside temperature. and i've seen it as high as 20 degrees more than the outside temperature. When i get my Volant i'll let you know how this changes.
