Did you flip the monitor down first and then try a split screen reverse view? It won't be split screen in reverse. Sounds like the monitor is cutting the power to the camera when it's not displaying anything. You might have to cut the 6 volt +/- going to the camera and feed it full time with a 6v regulator.
