I really wanted a diesel for years, but in addition to what Squid posted, you have to take into account the extra cost for scheduled maintenance, (filters, xtra oil for changes, etc), plus the higher cost to have them emission tested here. Unless you use the thing commercially, there doesn't seem to be a break even point when compared to a gas engine, particularly when you factor in that 300k miles on a gas engine isn't rare anymore. Oh well, maybe in the next life................
