wow, awesome! that sounds like fun! I have always wanted to build my own house, but it would have to be a permanent location, and I am not sure where that will be yet.
Nice looking pad I must say, going to invite us for the house-warming party? I hope you got a big drive, heh.

Housewarming came and went about two years ago...but there's always more work going on. Next week I've got 7 trees coming out to make way for larger area for parking at the top of the driveway. Then a little cat work and a few loads of gravel, and I might be able to accomodate more than 1/2 doz vehicles parked valet style.

If you're in my neck of the woods, you're always welcome!

Looking for Gasolene Welding Machine!

Wasn't sure where else to put this, but if anyone in the Texas/Louisiana areas knows of a good portable gas welding machine (e.g Miller Bobcat 225), preferably already mounted on a trailer (oxy/acetylene rig included is even better), please let me know as I am in the market to buy one. If you know of one, please PM me. Thanks!

The Travelling Roadshow

Ok so I am a mining engineer, which means we move around a lot. The pictures here are a collection of renos at:

1. Our house in St. Albert, AB when I was working at a diamond mine (Fly in fly out Edmonton to the mine in the NWT) This is only patly finished. I bought a router & table and made custom trim out of the same wood (alder) as the cabinets. We bought the place for $189K lived there for 15 months and sold it for $365K! I guess kitchens really do make a difference!

2. Our house in Kamloops, BC where we did a lot of outside stuff. We broke even on this house with the 25k in renos that we did. I think we could have done better but it sold on the first day with a quick possession.

3. To come: building a 31'x24' garage at our new house in North Bay, ON.

Looks like a heck of a project salem. Looks good so far. One thing is, I hope you're going to put a header in that opening in the next to last picture if that's ultimately going to be a door or cased opening!

Header

The double 2x4 over the door opening is screwed into the bottom edge of the double 2x12"s that the deck is made of. That shop is all under a 20x24' deck! The deck was held up by 4x4s and a lot of the structure perpendicular to the joists was rotten, so I replaced all that with a 2x4 wall, just happens to make a nice little 20x13' shop area!

That place is sold though. Now at the latest place we have 6 acres of land so we are building a 31'x24' garage (any more than 750 sqft requires rezoning) it will have a 16' door, 2 parking spots and a 13' shop area to one side. We will be excavating on Saturday this week. Garage package (Prefab walls & trusses) is ordered. Concrete guy is lined up for compaction, rebar, pouring and finishing, then we take over.
