I put it up to help anyone and everyone put in their own head unit. It makes it worth my time to have taken the pictures and done the writeup the more people that use it for their own installs. I'm glad people are using it and finding it helpful. We really need to thank Squid for having this forum for us. And if anyone wants to show their appreciation for the write-up, it'd help out the forum if they made a donation to the forum. Any little bit helps out.

HI, newie here to the site. Been reading the site for a couple months, and decided to sign up. I just bought a '07 DC Limited. I have a Z1 that I have put in a couple other cars, and now its time for the Tundra.

Tox, I a quick likely eazy question for you. I have the JBL premium, and when i do my install, i am going to wire my own amp rather than use the JBL. So, will the basic wiring harness work since i am not tapping into the JBL? I am not sure if the basic harness (K3)will tap correctly into the far right factory harness (which is a K9). Thanks and great write up. You have saved countless people over $500 bucks in install work!!!

I know it's probably not what you want to do... But the factory JBL amps and Avic sounds damn good(clean and clear) when used with the PAC-TATO. Unless you're replacing the JBL speakers as well, I see no reason in bypassing the JBL amps. Actually, I see no reason in upgrading the JBL system. I'm somewhat of an audiophile, and I was pretty impressed with the JBL.

And if you have the steering wheel controls, I would also advise the PAC SWI-X over the SWI-PS or anything else.

Indeed Toxarch... Very helpful.... I can't thank you enough...
I finished it up with the SWI-X for steering wheel controls, which turned out better than I thought it would... and wrapped the entire thing up with a JL Stealth Box over the weekend... which did not fit near as well as I was hoping, as the mounting brackets wouldn't line up right.. But I managed to get them bent into shape...
I hated the SWI-PS in my Chevy truck as it would only work when it felt like it, and the functions were limited... SO this time I used the PAC SWI-X... The SWI-X can learn alot more fuctions than most of the other interfaces, including Voice command...cancel/back...as well as answer and hang up...
The only problem I had, was that the stock voice command button had an issue programming against the volume down... I guess there tied into each other somehow... But it turned out better, as the SR1 remote's VC/back and answer and hang up buttons switch roles dependant on what's going on(i.e when you get a phone call or during a call)... sooo I just progrmmed the stock answer/hang up buttons to VC and back.... as you might can make out from the pic, it has a secondary role when either in a call or when you're receiving a call.. Worked out perfect...
Cruddy Iphone pics...

I was going to extend the IR up to the overhead, but found that it worked just fine at the center console without needing to splice and extend the emiter(even in diect sunlight)

Actual IR emitter

The plugs should be different and therefore will not work.

BTW, you can apparently upgrade your Z1 to a Z3 with a Z3 cloned hard drive. Check avic411 and there is a guy selling them for around $130 IIRC..

Thanks everyone for the quick reply and advice. I went ahead and ordered the jbl adapter and steering wheel controls. Appreciate the advice! I will also be upgrading the harddrive to make it a z3. Great site, I will be turning by buddy on to it, as he just got a crew cab himself!
