Hey guys,

This is a great topic and an excellent write up! I do have a quick question re: the backup camera. I have the limited with the camera and screen already. So, when I tap in, dont i just need to tap into the V+/V- leads? Doesnt the camera already have power, therefore the power/ground and voltage adjustment not being needed? My thought was it would work if i ran just the video leads to the avic hu. I have the regulator built and ready to go, but i dont want to short something out if the camera is already getting power.

Thanks!

Do you have a voltage tester? Turn the truck on and test the wires. It may only send voltage to the camera when you switch to reverse.

Well I got everything installed and working. I was able to keep my stock back up monitor working in addition to the Avic monitor. Looks pretty good, but the avic monitor is 100x better than the stock!! Only problem is, after I put everything back together, I found out my overhead lights aren't working, and my clock resets to 1:00 every time i turn the ignition off. Not sure how i wired the clock to the acc, but I'll figure it out later. I'll get some pics posted tomorrow. Thanks for all the help!!!!!

So did you use the voltage regulator? Without it, it should work fine when in reverse. I was curious if you could switch the Avic to the rear view while in drive and have the camera show anything.

Well, I had the regulator all put together and ready to go, but the whole project had me frustrated and I completely forgot to put the regulator in. Both the stock monitor and my avic monitor work while in reverse. When I am driving, I can select the map option that is half map, half reverse cam and it works just fine. The stock monitor doesnt turn on though, not that i expected it too.

Well that is good. That means the overhead screen is feeding power to the camera anytime the truck is running and you don't need the regulator unless you decide to remove that screen.

Stock backup too

NICE! I'm new here and was going to ask the question about the stock reverse camera monitor. I plan on adding an avic-f900 very soon and wondered about the back up cam already in my truck. I guess I can just leave it up there connected. Does anyone know what would go in it's place if I decide to remove it? Is it another card holder or something? Im sure someone would purchase that on ebay eh?

Sweet! I loved my Z1 that I had in the Magnum, and my Altima..But since I got the Kenwood, I would never go back to the Pioneer.

Hi Toxarch (or anyone that understands the following question,)

First off, GREAT THREAD!

I've spent the entire day yesterday reading through your thread and PS-Rage's thread about the voltage regulator for connecting the factory backup camera. I just ordered my camera and hooking it up is the easy part.

My question is a two part question. In page1 of this thread, you said the 'reverse signal wire' is the violet wire. But also, earlier in the same thread, you said PS-Rage informed you that it's the green wire. Are both usable for the 'reverse signal wire?'

The second part of my question is soooo lame. I apologize ahead of time. Again, I tried to figure this out on ALL day (reading it over and over on my iPhone while shopping with the prego wifey and even on the lappy when getting home.)

Anyhow, you wrote "So you could connect the white/black wire to the white camera wire and the voltage regulator between the light purple wire and the black camera wire." My question is, which cables of the voltage regulator goes where? It looks like there are three total wires coming from the voltage regulator. There is one end with two wires and the other end with one. The end with one wire connects to the 'white/black' camera wire? And does that mean that end with two wires connect to the purple wire and the other to the black? If this is the case, does it matter which connects to which. Sorry to sound so confused..

I sent you a PM (Toxarch) so you can obviously ignore it if it gets answered here.

I believe that both of those wires will work. I also thnk it depends where you plan to tap into them. I would advise tapping into them in the a-pillar, as it's alot easier without having to fish a wire from the overhead console, over to the a-pillar and back into the dash...

I found two green wires in the a-pillar... The one I used is the sole green wire in the front most connector i tha a-pillar... note the quick splice on the green wire in this pic...

I only used quick splices to test everything, before I cut/soldered/heatshrinked my connections...
