Probably stupid Satelite Radio Question

I just bought a 2009 Tundra and I have what they call the #2 stereo. The #1 is supposedly the base model without the CD changer or Satellite, mine is supposed to have the satellite radio and cd changer, and then #3 has all of that plus the JBL speaker upgrade.

My problem is, in all of my other cars that were satellite capable, when you hit the satellite button, it at least played the ads wanting you to buy XM. On this truck the Satellite button and AM button are the same, and according to the manual, you hit the button once for AM and twice for satellite, but it never changes off of AM.

So, my dumb question is: Is this stereo not really Satellite ready and just has the button, or am I missing some step?

I know I don't have the service yet, but what is supposed to happen is that you get a code off of the screen while you're in XM mode and thats how they activate, but unless I can get the stereo to switch over to XM, I can't get the code.

thanks in advance.

Does the truck actually have the satellite receiver installed? Satellite ready doesn't always mean it's ready to receive.

The satellite button only means the radio is satellite ready. Unless you ordered an OEM head and antenna unit with your truck, or bought one and installed it yourself, the satellite radio will not work.

Edit: sorry, grim... you must have posted just before I did, lol!

Think of it as satellite capable, not satellite ready. You have to install the satellite parts to make it satellite ready

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. And I hate to ask, but does anyone know what parts you need to make it functional? I'm guessing I'm going to end up using the small unit I got from XM in my other car.

Didn't you do a DIY install thread for one of those? Or was that someone else?
