    Problem with AUX input

the AUX input stops working when the cable gets jiggled ( I know don-t jiggle it), but the whole block is loose.
How do you get the panel off?
I have not delved into the dash of the truck as of yet.

    Thanks in advance.

That actually comes off with the ac controls. It's a bit of a process the first time you pull it because it takes a good firm tug and you don't want to break things.

This is the best picture i have of my dash right now so i'll use it at an example

If you grab the little cubby just below the aux jack (where the power plugs are) and pull straight out on it firmly it should slide right out.

You can the then grab the ac controls from and pull out on them a bit. Notice that the fan control knob is coming with the ac control assembly but the plastic around the fan control is actually part of the dash segment that goes up toward the gauges. you have to pull a bit out on that section to give enough space for you to slide that knob out from behind it.

Then you have the ac controls only connected by wires and you can inspect to see what's loose.

If it's under warranty, take it in and have them replace it with a new one.

I agree with Tox, if its under warraty then replace it. I had the same problem, and my dealer was hesitant to fix it, they kept telling me it was the cable that was bad and not the AUX hub. After replacing the cables 2 different times, and showing them receipts, (finally settling on a monster cable)...they replaced it. I cant believe I had to do all that leg work to show them that the hub was faulty and not the cable! It took them an hour to do, long wait for what seems to be a simple fix...

    AUX input completely dead

    Hey guys,

First time posting to this forum.. but PHEW am I glad to hear that others have the same issue. I've had my Tundra (2008 Limited, CrewMax, 5.7L, 4x4, TX edition) since May 2008 and have been dealing with this issue ever since.

In my case, was using an iPod and whenever the input was jiggled or a road bump hit, i would get kicked outta the AUX input on my Nav System and couldn't get back in. I would turn the system on and off and remove the stereo-mini cable from the ipod and car and then replug it all back in to fix.

Last week, it's died for good but I don't know what to fix. Can you elaborate a bit more about this AUX HUB you are referring to???

I figure there is one of 3 things wrong
    1) The AUX input jack itself has loose connections
    2) The cable is broken or cannot send signal to the sytem
    3) there is something busted in the head unit itself.

I am new to tinkering with my own vehicle, but I am an engineer and am willing.. toyota is suggesting $150 to replace the AUX plug... i feel I "should" be able to do that myself.... or with a 3rd party, but I am not sure how to go about it...

    thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Didn't know they ship TX edition trucks to Canada.

Replacing the plug is pretty simple. I assume you have the center console model. Open up the two cigarette lighter power ports and put a thumb in each one. Get a good grip and pull straight out. Now reach up behind the AUX port and push it out from behind. There might be a tab on top and bottom that you have to squeeze. Then you can unplug it and swap it out with the new one.

You're right.. they don't ship TX Edition. Bought it while I lived in Austin for a year...

Is that AUX plug something I can rig up with any audio components or do I need the Toyota part? I prefer the L/R RCA/Phono plugs, so I am debating having those as connectors and using a Y-cable to my iphone... seems like it would be sturdier but dunno if i have the room

The plug is a Toyota part that uses a different plug in the back. RCA plugs are low voltage inputs/outputs and are much lower voltage than speaker outputs. You could splice into the toyota wiring and add your own plug in the next blank if you wanted. Or hard wire an extension cable to wherever you keep your iPhone.

thanks for the additional info. I haven't had time to jack with it lately.
I am leaning toward getting an aftermarket headunit and speakers to circumnavigate the problem.
