Remote start

I noticed on the Toyota website that this can be added at the dealership. Does anyone know about the availability of remote start on Tundras or have it on theirs?

Don't have remote but it is available. Several owners have the Toyota remote and are not really wild about it. I plan on waiting until some of the better aftermarket suppliers make a remote available. Other members say the remote is only good for about 80 feet from the truck and when you unlock the door the engine stops. You then have to insert key and restart. This may not bother you. The Silverado I owned before the Tundra had a remote that I installed. You could unlock the truck, insert key and ready to go. If the brake was touched or hood unlatched without a key in ignition then the truck stopped.

Yeah having it stop running when you open the door would really defeat the purpose in a way (although I guess it'd be warm). What a pain.

I had an aftermarket starter installed by the dealer when I bought my Tundra. It was recommended over the Toyota product by my dealer and works great, long range and no problem with opening the doors etc.

Thanks for the reply. This is one of the great things about this site. Members always trying to help without some useless comments. I have been checking on several different remote units and had looked at the Autostart brand. From all info I find the Autostart seems really good. Guess I will be contacting the supplier for them and see what all is required as to bypass units, wiring harness, etc.

Heck, I would be satisfied if we could get a group buy on an Autostart brand with specific instructions as to unit required and what type bypass for engine immobilizer and vehicle specific wiring harness with installation instructions. I installed a remote start unit on the 01 Silverado I had prior to the Tundra. Had no vehicle specific wiring harness and poor instructions. It worked, that is all that matters. I would install a factory Toyota unit if I had not seen so much negative info about it. Plus the price is really too expensive.
