Exclamation Firewall Wiring Harness Grommets - replacement needed

Problem: A rat got into my 2005 Tundra engine compartment and partially ate away the driver side and passenger side wiring harness rubber grommets that are mounted on the firewall (1 grommet on each side of engine compartment). Dealer's can't get just the grommet, saying I need the whole wiring harness (big $$$'s). Any one know where or who I can contact for only the rubber grommet?????

Also, anyone know how to stop the rat? I'm in a rural area with lots of critters running around. Can't park in a garage. Have tried placing traps in the engine compartment, bait, etc... Seems to only make them more hungrier..so they go after rubber...

Call around to a couple of the local wrecking yards and see if they have a Tundra on the lot. You could go there and pull the part yourself for a few dollars.

Animals in vehicles are a big pain. They start with the rubber and then move to the wires. Get a couple of cats and that might help, especially barn cats. Some suggest fox urine to scare away the rats (and squirrels and other critters), but then you have to smell the fox urine for a little while. I've tried fox urine on squirrels in my attic and it didn't work very well.

If you do get a cat, be sure to honk the horn before you start the truck. They like to climb up under the hood and take a nap sometimes.
