Sonar

Anyone know if all Tundra's are pre-wired for the sonar systems? In other words, do we only need to plug and play the bumber sensors?

Thanks

Only certain trucks are prewired for it. In the 07s, most of the trucks are since most come with the towing package. I think it is, if you have the towing package, or you have the NAV camera, then you are prewired for the sonar. Far fewer 08s are prewired.

As for plug and play, I have not heard of anyone doing it. You would need the sensors and the dash button to start, not sure if you need anything else. The button goes in the unused spot below the clock/MPG buttons and I think you replace all 4 buttons as one piece. SET (South East Toyota) installs a different port sonar option than the OEM stuff. Don't know if they do that because of OEM price or because of a lack of OEM parts. I would guess price (more profit) since SET and GST are out to rob people.

Thanks Tox. I have the plugs under the bumpers, and over the weekend I found that there is a little "picture" next to the dash clock for the sensors to read out on. I just wasn't sure what all was needed to make the set complete so to speak. I only ask because I saw a smashed up Tundra the other day and it made me think of scrounging some parts from a scrapyard.

I'd be interested in hearing if you find usable 'sonar' parts. I have thought about the same thing and would love to have the original sonar working since I know I have the wiring already.

I have already added my backup camera a few weeks ago.

In that case, get the whole bumper with the sonar for front and back.

It'd be sweet to get the Optitron gauges and limited's A/C control for my Tundra, but someone said the A/C control won't work in the SR5.

Yes. That's what we called them up north. I'm a transplant from PA.

I have a 2008 Tundra it is pre-wired. When I bought it I had the sonar thrown in to the deal. The sonar that they put on it did not use the the wires already on the truck. They told me that the sonar was Toyota parts but I found out from another dealership that they install aftermarket sonars approved by Toyota. It has yet to work right it beeps all the time, the botton is not in the right place and the light on the dash up by the clock does not work. hopefully they will make it right next monday.

If you are in the south east, they are known for using an inferior aftermarket sonar on the Tundras.
