    Installing Tekonsha Brake Controller

Hi to all. I am a newbie to this forum. I just bought my Tundra long bed 4x4 and ordered a Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller for towing my 27' travel trailer. I am not sure where to mount the controller yet. I am wondering if anyone here has mounted one. I would like any tips that might be helpful. Of course photos would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance for your thoughts, tips, or photos.

Your truck's interior is different than mine. My truck is a regular cab, 4x4, SR5 and the shift is on the column. Thanks for the feed back though. I will keep looking for places to mount the controller. I am used to having the controller on the left of the steering wheel and using the manual control with my left hand when desired.

Could you take a pic of your interior? I'm interested in seeing what you're confronted with because like you I've always had and seen them on the left side of the steering column tucked out of the way.

Hi Squid, I posted the photos at Picasa Web Albums - Jim - Tundra
I will have to reduce the size to post them on the forum. I may do that later today if I find the time. Thanks for your interest.

I can guarantee you that you won't be the first to run into this dilemma so by sharing what you have, what you're going to do to accomplish it, other Tundra owners with the same truck will benefit down the road.

I know to some this seems like a pain but others will realize that they have an opportunity to be modern day pioneers, blazing the path for future owners which is what makes owning a first generation Tundra (and this site) such a kick in the pants. There are no experts, just a bunch of people learning, brainstorming and sharing.

They sure didn't give you a lot of options did they?

I'm wondering what that little cubby is that the red arrow points to and I suppose the area with the Gold arrow won't work due to your right leg rubbing up against it?

I mounted my controller where your gold arrow is shown. It is actually straight up from your arrow. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of room for my leg. It's within easy reach if needed. I experimented with the "left of column" area but found the controller was in the way of my size 13's when getting in and out. I used 2 real small self tapping screws into the lower dash panel and it's permenently mounted on the right. (it's too dark out right now for picture, if needed let me know and I'll take one in the daylight)

Right on! I am 6' 2" with size 12's. Really want to see a photo. My controller has not arrived yet but should be here soon. Thanks in advance for your post. Also, I ordered the connector that plugs into both the controller and the Vehicle so no butt connectors or soldering I hope. Can you describe the location of the vehicle connector too me? I removed the side panel to have a look but didn't think to take a picture at the time. I saw like two possible plugs but they were well wrapped with black electrical tape. I figured I would look more into that when the controller was here.
