DIY gone wrong: Horn install. Need you smart people in here

I bought a Wolo Bad Boy from Kraegan. I tried to install it in my 07 Tundra by cutting the wires that lead to the right horn. One the stock horn the 2 wires joined together at a connector at one connection point on the horn. I did not do anything with the left horn, which I later noticed only has one wire.

I recreated the Totota connector by putting both wires to the positive connection on the Wolo horn. It did not work. Sometimes the stock horn on the left would even with the wolo not working.

I let it like that for a few days, and just today I decided to run a wire from the negative connection to ground and see if that would work. It did (I really can't tell for sure because it could have been the stock horn going) for one push of the horn, but the second push nothing happened. Since then, I have tried swiching up positive an negative, taking the 2 wires apart and putting them on positive and negative, and tryign with the left horn unplugged and plugged in. Nothing works now. No wolo or stock horn.

I need help figuring out what I did wrong and how to fix it. There is a humming that comes from the engine compartment now when I put the key to the ON position. It may have done that before, but I never noticed it.

The Wolo

Left stock horn

Wires that went to right horn

stock connector for the right horn

Where the connector goes into the stock horn (see how there is only one connection point for both wires)

How I originally wired it. That brown wire is the one I later used for ground.

man that is too bad. This is why I am not comfortable doing things to my truck - things like this always seem to go wrong. I hope you get it fixed soon.

now I am going to try to give u some ideas but i dont have my Tundra to check this for u..

For one - the load of the WOLO harn may be alot greater than the stock horn due to it taking much more current. Schematic says 20amps fuse so i am sure it draws at least 16amps.
Now the stock Horn i am sure is for 12vdc and draws less current. Seems u should of followed the one wire installation. Your photo shows the wiring is ok at end with ground lead to WOLO to Chassis but i think u blew a fuse when u reversed the wires and that puts the 12v to gnd and pop goes the fuse. I would of wired the external relay in line with the stock horn wire. this would put less stress on the tundra's relay which i dont know if it could or cannot take the higher current.

the hummiing noise -- not sure... only thing i would guess is maybe u fried the horn relay if fuse didn;t protect it.

If you put a voltmeter on the horn lead + , do you get 12V when you press the horn on the steering wheel - if u dont then its fuse. if u do get the 12V then attach to the WOA and if the 12V drops , the circuit cannot handle the current and fuse will blow...

hope this helps.

hope this helps somewhat and didnt confuse u. i dont know ure level of electrical..

The huming noise may be the stuck relay coil for the horn circuit...

Does the wolo use a compressor? Does it charge up to blow the horn or does the compressor just come on to blow the horn? I would guess the latter but if not, then the humming MIGHT be the compressor coming on.

There is a possibility you blew the stock fuse. Unplug the wolo and the left horn should work fine. If it doesn't work, then check for a horn fuse and see if it's blown.

You might have to do your own wiring for the Wolo. Use the existing horn wiring as your switch for the relay and wire the Wolo power directly to the battery.

THis may be too hard for me. Could I just put the stock horn back on the wires?

Try this:

Unplug the wolo. Does the left horn work? If it doesn't work, then check for a horn fuse and see if it's blown.

Unhappy

tox - question - there are two wires to the horn - my guess the second wire from same connector goes to the 2nd horn. I think ure right humming maybe also from Compressor of the WOLO.. i am sure its air driven by air or some armature coil motor type looking at it. just giving my feedback - trying to help.
sometimes i get to technical when electrical since its my field of work..

wish i had my tundra to give more help..

Yeah, I looked at mine last night and there are two wires going to the first horn and one wire to the second horn. So I assumed they are a wired parallel.

Check fuses for horn circuit sounds like you blew it when messing around with the connections, and get rid of that aftermarket crap they cause nothing but problems. It mey be grounded differently than stock horn. Also check horn relay.

I decided to take the horn off yesterday. I reatached the stock horn using the stock harness. I soldered it, but very messily (1st time with solder). But nothing happens when I press on the horn. I looked at the 10 amp fuse for the horn, and couldn't notice anything and the horn/security relay doesn't look like there is a way to find out if it is messed up.
How do I know if the fuse is messed up?

So I started the truck today the way I always do, by just quickly hitting the key. It tried to crank over but didn't actually start. It worked the second time. The air conditioner does not work now, and its light blinks. I didn't even mess with anything do do with the A/C, so now I know I must have I done something really wrong. I made an appointment to take it in to the dealer, but I am afraid that I just voided my warranty. Any ideas?
