For whatever reason, I just decided to read this entire thread from the beginning. Absolutely beautiful! I also notice two of my favorite pocket knives hiding out in the photos. A Chris Reeve Sebenza, doesn't get any better, and a Benchmade AFCK, very nice. I have it it M2 HS tool steel (love it).

I'm sure in a single DIN application it would be awesome but in a double DIN like this one it just wasn't right.

Anyhow, today I exchanged it for a W205 double DIN unit.

I had a minor panic attack at first as I was installing it as the sleeve wouldn't fit in the dash kit. Then it occured to me to check how the original unit was installed. Sure enough, it had some nice little brackets that bolted right on to the Alpine. Pardon the pics today, the D2 is at home so I had to use my old Ricoh:

So now it fits like a glove and looks factory. Gotta say I am very pleased:

hi, Nice write up. I just have a question. when you used the OEM brackets how did you get the Metra dask kit and bezel to stay on. I have been playing with mine for about 1 hours now. did you use the bezel that came with the deck or the bezel that came with the metra kit?

thanks

PS-Rage has been on here since last May lotust, and I can't really help you on the Metra kit. I used the Scosche bezel for my Pioneer AVIC and assuming the Metra kit is similar, the top and sides of the bezel are held on by friction clips and the bottom by the bottom 2 bolts (4 bolts total) which anchor the HU in.

If you're using the overhead console OEM monitor, the 6 volts is generated by the monitor itself.... try checking the output of the LED monitor to find the 6 volts (unfortunately, I don't remember the color of the wire that has the 6 volts). I'll try looking around here and see if I can find it and repost here if I do.

You have to supply the same harness with 6v to power the camera.

Black = 6v (CA+) <-- 6v accessory power must be brought to here
White = Ground (CGND) <-- frame ground must be brought to here
Red = Center of coax (V+)
Grey = Shield of coax (V-)

I cant believe I took the time to read the whole thread, but well worth it, detailed and very clear. I could only imagine what you would do to the engine if you were a gear head. I'm sure your truck sounds amazing. Any other future projects?
