| Magnaflow Muffler I have a decent relationship with a guy in the Toyota Dealership Service Department where I bought my truck. He recommended that I should just go with a MagnaFlow Muffler and use the existing exhaust system on the truck. He said the cost for the muffler for the truck would be $80ish, and another 30 or so for the install at a muffler shop. Two questions for you guys out there smarter then I: 1.) Will just replacing the muffler give me the same approximate gains that a whole cat back system would, and 2.) What Magnaflow muffler would you guys recommend? I'm looking for any type of insight you all can provide. Thanks in advance.

| Ask him where he can get the muffler for $80 and installed for $30. The muffler price is about right for online pricing, but no shop around here would install it for $30. Cheapest I found was $75 for basic install. $75 won't break the bank, but $30 would be a lot cheaper. You don't get a lot of gains from the exhaust. You get more from the headers and then some from intake, and a little from exhaust. The stock piping varies in size all the way through. Not sure why they did that. You can gain a little by having the cat back since the piping should be standard all the way through. But again, you don't gain much from exhaust, it's mostly for the sound. As for which Magnaflow to get, I'm not sure since I didn't look into them too much after hearing about a few reporting drone from the ones that most have installed.

| I agree with Tox pretty much. The exhaust systems on modern trucks are designed to move the Torque and Horsepower down the RPM range where it's more usable for towing and hauling. As soon as you increase the diameter of the exhaust and the intake you will increase Horsepower and torque but unfortunately any gains will be higher up the RPM scale. Great for racing but bad for towing. This is where programmers come into play because with a programmer you can alter the timing and fuel delivery to compensate for this change and move the HP and torque up and down the RPM range.

| I only paid 100 bucks for my flowmaster super 40 series and install. I just had the muffler changed out with duel inlet, duel outlet dumps. Probably why mine was so cheap

| I used a magnaflow Y pipe and reversed it to use an 18" round magnaflow and it just wasn't loud enough for me so I had it straight piped and it sounds great now, but magnaflow does have a dual in/ single out that worked great for the Titans, again not very loud but i went from a staight pipe to that particular muffler on my Titan and the bottom end was a lot stronger. http://www.toyotatundraforum.com/exh...installed.html http://www.toyotatundraforum.com/exh...ision-1-a.html
