Run Premium Gas Before SC Install!!

I get a call from the Service Manager a few minutes ago. This is the first SC install that they'll be doing on the Tundra. He says when he calls Toyota to ask questions about the install, Toyota tells him to inform customers that they have to have premium fuel running through the engine preceeding the installation. If not, then not only is the supercharger warranty voided, so is any remaining powertrain warranty pertaining to the engine.

When I used to put Whipples on my Chevys, I only had to worry about having premium in it immediately after installation.

The Service Manager informed me to run the current tank empty and make sure premium is put in the day before I drop the truck off.

Please keep this in mind and let anyone else know, who might be adding the TRD supercharger.

Sounds like a load of to me, or at the very least, a gross overreation.

You have to run 91 or better with the supercharger. Maybe they just need to be sure it's in the truck when the supercharger is installed. Maybe it saves them time when installing if they know that premium is already in the tank.

So TundraFL, I'm guessing you are taking the scenic route home for a couple of days to burn off any extra gas.

With the running to & from the football field these days, it won't take long to burn that gas! Although, I had some Series 40s installed and my instant mpg jumped 2 spots. Still makes no sense to me how I can increase hp, yet increase mpg at the same time. I'm now getting 16-18 on the expressway. Used to get 14-16.

As for the premium fuel, I'll listen to the experts. Being new to this area, I don't have a relationship with a dealer yet, therefore no one to give me some special consideration should something happen.

Those little bottles of octane booster work out to about a .2 increase in octane rating.
