| Manual says 5K. Dealer told me 5K. I waited until 5K.

| grimm, I have the 4.7L powerplant also. In the past on all of my vehicles I have always tried to change out the oil the first time at 1K and then every 3K thereafter. I don't know if it is due to getting older or what but, for the Tundra I decided to follow the mfr recommendations and change it every 5K - so that is what I have done. I have had 8 oil changes now b/c my miles are just over 41K. re.ac.tor ![]()

| I'm no mechanic, but I thought w/ new engines it was a rule of thumb to change the oil after the breakin period. I'm definately going to do it before the 5K, but that it'll be more out of convenience rather than desire.

| Yeah, what Tox and re.ac.tor said... I've always been a change at 1000 miles first time and then every 3000 miles thereafter. When I switched to Mobil 1 my mechanic brother-in-law convinced me that I should change oil no SOONER than every 5000 miles, otherwise a waste of money. My dealer was the one who convinced me to wait until 5000 miles for first oil change on the Tundra.

| Got my oil changed yesterday having gone 5k miles with all oem oil & filter used thus far (at 16k miles). This was the first time I had let it get over 3k miles (Per dealership), but there was a distinct difference in how it drove and sounded after the change. I'm going to just keep changing at 3k even with new oils out there as I havent heard of a single "break through" in oil filters in years. |
