Smoking

Anyone experience a puff of oil smoke at startup? I have an 07 w/30K miles. It has done this 3 times. Of course, when the dealer was asked about it, they had never heard of that before , and tried to tell me it didn't happen. This is the 5.7.and it is white oil smoke.

Nope Bill... I have only 12k miles and have never seen this before either. They didn't happen to overfill the oil at oil change did they?

That's what I was going to suggest...had it happen to my old Camry once. Smoked like a mosquito truck! They not only overfilled it, but they also only tightened the oil filter about half a turn. That was the last time I left anybody else change my oil.

I am having the same problem. I have an 08 5.7L w/ 12k miles. I called the dealer to ask if they have had any others w/ this problem, of course they said "no, they have not heard of it". I want to know what is going on, I will take it to the dealer when I have a few days.

Not to nit-pick details, but oil smoke has a tinge of blue to it. White smoke is from antifreeze or water. Are you sure it's oil smoke ?

White smoke is steam, it normal from condensation build up. Hot pipes drawing in moisture.

It's similar to setting out a glass of ice water on a hot day, the glass "sweats", same thing on your exhaust, only in reverse.

Does that make sense?
