| Actually it's fairly quiet at cruising and there is no drone. I think I lost mpg because of the muffler. I might remove it and weld the stock one back on to see if that is the case. If so, I might try something else.

| I have been researching cat-back systems for my new Tundra, reading and taking to alot of people. First I thought I would have the Borla. It's nice for sure but can't be had for less then a grand. Then I got to looking at one of my favorite companies, Banks. That monster kit is really nice but I wanted side exhaust and it's still a grand. So, I started looking at many other systems and listening to them on my computer with the subwoofer cranked up. LOL O.K., even without the speaker system cranked up, they are just louder then what I want. Now I have narrowed the search to one. I am going to get the Flowmaster system #17443. The price is right. The muffler build is right. And they will wannenty it for ten years. While I wish it were stainless, I don't really want to pay for the stainless pipe. My last truck had Flowmaster on it for seven years and still looked and sounded perfect when I sold the truck. Now for some info you might want to know. The 17443 cat-back kit comes with a dual-in, dual-out 50 series big block muffler that is ONLY avalible in the kit. It is designed specifically for the Tundra 5.7L engine. The standard 50 series big block muffler is a universal and different from the one in the kit. I know you can buy a 50 series muffler cheaper on-line but do you know what you are getting? NOPE! You don't. Is it a 50 Series HD - Three Chamber Muffler or a 50 Series Delta Flow - Three Chamber Muffler or a 50 Series SUV Performance - Three Chamber Muffler or a 50 Series Big Block - Three Chamber Mufflers or the 50 Series Big Block - Three Chamber Muffler tuned specifically for the Tundra 5.7L? Maybe you will be happy with whatever you get but just be aware when you start comparing apples hat not all apples are the same. Here is a pretty darn good deal if anyone is interested. I am ordering mine next week when I get my allowance. $575.99 shipped to my door. http://www.streetsideauto.com/products.asp?ParentID=23&SubID=314&ptid=3383&brand =BDXN&PQID=4856&series=American+Thunder+Exhaust+%2 8DOR%2FDOS%29&LookupType=YMM&lsbYear=2008&lsbMakes =TOYOTA&lsbModels=TUNDRA&lsbSubModels=LIMITED&lsbE ngineSizes=5.7L+%2F+345+C.I.D.&lsbEngTypes=V8&lsbF uelDels=Fuel+Injection&lsbASPs=Normal&lsbEngVins=N one

| I was wondering as well if theres any difference performance wise as well if you use a single vs dual out? I was looking at the 40 series flow master thats 1 in 2 out, and talked it over with a muffler shop here about changing it around for me. They said they would cut of the ends flip um around so its 2 in 1 out and drop the pipe before the axle for $210. They also suggested just using a magnaflow (i believe its called) that already comes 2 in 1 out and is quiter. I'm hesitant to do the flow master not sure how loud that will be, i just don't want a extremely over powering sound all the time. |

| You should be able to get the Flowmaster in a 2 in/1 out. I wouldn't trust a shop that is going to flip it around. They are designed to be directional and you'd get bad flow if you turned it around. The Magnaflow will probably be just as loud as the 40 series and people have reported drone with some Magnaflows installed on a Tundra. You could do a Flowmaster 50 series SUV if you want it fairly quiet most of the time. You would usually only hear it on acceleration and very little while at cruising speed. $210 for the muffler and installation sounds a little high for a dumped exhaust (including muffler), but not bad. My install cost was $75. |

Ya, i thought i explained that poorly, i mean there going to cut off both ends, just the very tip of them. Put the 2 out in the front of the chamber making it a 2 in, then but the 1 out (thats usually the in). So the direction of the air thought the actually chamber is still the same. Just the connections are flipped around not the chamber. I was looking through the flow master catalog he had and the 40 series i saw didn't have a 2 in / 2 out or a 2/1 but i swear Ive read about it here. I know the SUV 50 series has that but i wanted a little more sound then that. |

| I checked the Flowmaster website and you are right that they do not offer any dual input muffler in the 40 series. How about doing a true dual muffler setup? You have the muffler guy put in an X or H pipe and then put in 2 mufflers. Sure, it costs a little more but you are supposed to get more power from it. How much more power? Not much since there is little gain to begin with. But a true dual exhaust is cooler when you tell people about it. And it should mean less work for the installer. |
| ||||
| Or, how about an 80 series? It's just barely quieter than the 40 series and offers a dual in. I don't know how it will sound on the Tundra, but it's an option. Flowmaster, Inc. |

| Ya, i think i may just do the magna one, (ill look into that 80 first though) and hope when i get a CAI it will boost up the sound. I think in a different post, you (tox) mentioned your 50 series sounded better after CAI. Its my understanding that the magna 2/1 already sounds more aggressive then the 50 series flow master's but that opinion is a very un-educated guess ATM. Id like to do duel , but I'm already over extending my self and i have no patience to wait. also Tox thanks again for responding i see i keep bringing up old threads nice of ya to respond back to me in most of them. |

| The CAI definitely made the muffler louder. I think the truck sounds great now. Look around the forum. There are others who have and have had the Magnaflow on their trucks. Maybe they can help you make a decision. |

| I just had a Magnaflow (two in, two out) installed to replace my TRD which had a bad "drone" cabin noise whenever I pulled a hill or just going down the interstate at cruising speed. I first listened to it on a dodge and it sounded real good and the owner said it had no cabin noise...so much for that. I left the TRD tail pipes with the resonator tips on. I think that also kills some of the rumble. The Magnaflow has a slight more throaty sound when you step on it however, I still have the cabin noise. It may be because I have a regular cab with no back seat or anything else in back of me to absorb the sound. Maybe the magnaflo will "loosen up" a little after I put some more miles on...I sure hope so. The cost was $210.00 installed. The TRD muffler was a straight thru on both sides but had a whole lot of packing. Probably should have left the TRD in but, I can't seem to leave anything alone. |
