| Do exhaust systems "make" power or mileage? Often the question comes up: Will an aftermarket exhaust system make horse power or get better mileage? I think of the exhaust system as a way to tune the power band rather than making more power or mileage. If you design a full custom exhaust you can usually gain power, but not so much with a catback. For most people it is a way to get a sound they like better. On race cars we have used different exhaust systems on the same car to move the power band to better suit a particular race track. We spent hours on the dyno to tune exhaust systems on a stock car in order to get the power tuned to where we can use it based on the stock gearing and particular track. We have designed full exhaust systems for race cars that involved understanding exhaust pulses. It was a lot of work and a system that was right for one race car, did not do the same on another identical car. On the Tundra I went with the DT Shorty Headers and Zoomers Exhaust not for power, but for a better (lower) torque curve for towing our race trailer. Here and here are some pretty good explanations on how and why exhaust system work.

| That's a fact. If you go to exhaust websites like Banks and check out the Dyno results you'll notice that most Cat-back systems increase HP but do so by moving the peak HP up the RPM range which is the complete opposite of what you need when towing and hauling. In most cases you're better off keeping the stock pipes and just replacing the muffler to get that sound you want without loosing the low end grunt. Great subject!

| is there a way of making it a dual exhaust doing only the muffler, without doing a full cat back system?

| offcourse there is. you can just split the pipe. it will be a custom welding project, but when it comes down to exhaust pipe nothing is impossible. |
