| Welder's imput please. I am comfortable about the weld on my new bumpers, but i have a couple guys saying the weld is terrible. So, if memory serves me, Paul?????? Could you give me your input. Any other welders please feel free to chime in. ![]() ![]() my only real life experience was when i was in the Navy, and to me, it looks like a normal Tack Job....... what say you?????

| I think its the Tack weld thing though Tony, there is no gap between the corners, its solid, which i think is the computer weld. The larger tacks are for strength.... |
| ||||
| I doubt that those bumpers are computer welded..............I bet they just put the pieces in a jig and go to town on manual welding.............They would have to make them everyday, all day long to have a computer doing it, that stuff is high dollar for robotics................

| I am a very amateur welder. To me, those welds look pretty ugly. Plus it looks like they just welded the corners and a couple of places in between. What's between the large weld spots? A good weld has full penetration and a consistent bead. Those welds do not appear consistent at all.

| I think Dexter is right, I don't think this is a computer welded assembly. Of course I'm only guessing, but this the way I think this assembly was produced: The fabricator assembles the parts in a jig, and then tack welds them together. The assembly is then removed from the jig, and a more experienced welder finishes welding the assembly. Although those welds look smaller than the big tacks, they are very strong because the edges of the parts are chamfered and this allows the welder to get good penetration. Those large tacks are just laying on top of the material, and not nearly as strong as the smaller beads in the "V" between the two chamfered pieces. |

| Definately not a robot. It looks like they used oxy vs electric welding. If the metal gets to hot it pops and you end up with a hole and you have to fill it back in, thats what those big bloches look like to me. I have not welded in yrs. Being rusty at it, I think I could do way better then that. I would not be surprised you have air pockets in some places.

| Maybe they used those big welds for the jig and then welded the bumper from the other side and then ground them down smooth. And that is why the between welds look so small. |

| It's hard to say with SUCH A CRAPPY PICTURE. |
