Peragon Bed Cover

I got my Peragon cover at the doorstep last night when I got home from work. I was more than a little worried after reading all the bad reviews, but the price was right. Overall, I pretty happy with it. Took me about four-hours to install in freezing cold temperatures. I took my time, checking for distance and square of the rails before installing the cover. So far it works quite well and opens and closes quite easily.

They did away with the bottom brace. It now braces by wedging to the side of the bed so there is no brace sitting at the bottom. I would have liked stainless hardware instead of plated steel for the aluminum. So far, I think it looks pretty good and will keep all that snow out of the bed.

So far, I really like it. I put the sled in the back of the truck today and folded up, the cover was not in the way at all. It takes seconds to open and close and the snow and ice, so far have little effect on it.

After having my Peragon cover for a year and a half, along with two harsh winters, I have to say the cover has held up very well and still looks (and functions) like new. The only problem I have had is one rivit poped out on the hinges and Peragon offers a fix for this, but have also redesigned the newer generations so this will not happen again.

Here are a few shots of the cover after being on the truck (sorry, it's hard to keep a black truck clean):

It has held up very well through being off and on many times with loads and it weathered winters very well, even with 2+ feet of snow on it through many snowmobiling trips.

This spring, Roger at Peragon offered me to try out their newest, third generation of the cover with several improvements. I took his offer and I can say, they are substantial, making a good cover even better. You cannot beat the price for a very sturdy, functional bed cover.

I received the newest model from Peragon. It came packaged very well, in two separate boxes. Everything came through in perfect shape.

...and clearly marked:

Perhaps the most difficult task is installing the weather seal on the outside of the rails. I think this is best accomplished by getting it started on the edge, about three inches, and then pealing back the tape about two inches. that way you have a solid start. I then pressed the rubber onto the rail and only peeled back the tape every several feet or so. Once I had the process down, it was very easy.

Assembling the rails was easy and the instructions were quite clear. I like that they have now used nylock nuts instead of lock washers.

After the rails were assembled it was easy to lay it out on the truck. I took measurements and installed the mounting brackets, which require drilling four holes in the side rails of the Tundra. I used the same mounting points from my previous installation. It's easy and I used rust inhibiter in all the holes I drilled before installing the brackets. You really need two people to carry it out and lay it on the truck. The rails are not heavy, just awkward for one person.

The new bolts to keep the ramps vertical is a simple, much-improved design and I believe it will eliminate any problems with slipping out of plumb.

I made sure all measurements were according to the instructions and made sure everything was square before attaching the rails to the truck. This didn't take much effort at all.

The new bearings for the cover are really much better than the previous one. Also the hinges are much stronger. Again, I had no problems with my older version, but this is much beefier.

Cover installed:

After checking the function of the top, which glided beautifully since I took my time measuring and making certain things were square, it was time to add the gas shocks which aid in retracting the cover.

The new gas shocks are much nicer and require no tools to install or remove, which you need to do in order to remove the cover. Just a flick the the tab and they are on or off.

They took seconds to install. The previous version could be very frustrating, particularly in cold, snowy weather.

The new locking mechanism locks at both sides and is much stronger than my earlier on. It works very smoothly.
