| Red's Beds update As I posted earlier, I installed a Red's Beds folding cover. I want to update everyone on the status of my issues with it.
The leaks were fixed after a phone call to the company. It appears that they had to change adhesives and the new adhesives didn't stick to the seals properly. I was asked to try some sealant first, before anything else. A little silicone adhesive caulk to each of the hinge areas and around the corners fixed it right up. Personally, for the money I shouldn't have to do anything, but it only took a half hour or so and I didn't really mind. Tonight I did the car wash test. Although I didn't hit the joints with a direct, close blast of the pressure washer, they did get hit with what I think 65mph blast of water would be like. Again, no real leaks afterwards that I could see but there were a few drips on the inside of the tailgate. I suspect this water came thru the sides of the tailgate not thru the cover.
I mentioned that the bed seemed to have some movement from side to side. Also, I snapped a mounting bolt then I locked the replacement nut on the new bolt. Well, it seems these things were related. Although I thought I tightened the mounting bracket, I really just jammed it up against an upper nut. I drilled the last bolt out so I could replace it when I realized that I had done. Because the bed utility track blocked the view, I couldn't see the problem until I removed the bold, mounting bracket, and nuts as a unit. So, by removing about 3/16" off the upper side of the mounting bracket, and installing another new bolt, I was able to tighten the clamp tight to the bed. Now there is no movement at all!!!
So the only issue left is the last section which wasn't cut to allow me to use the tailgate without opening the cover. I'm suspecting it will take another phone call to get things moving.
Right now I really liking this cover. Although I had to rework some of the mounting hardware, reconfigure the locks, and add sealant to the outside joints, I think the cover is darn good.
I'll keep you updated.
