Hi there, Robert here, from Vincent, California, USA!

Hi there, Robert here, from Vincent, California, USA!
Long time toyota owner, first time Tundra owner. Recently got my 2010 Tundra Double Cab 4x4 5.7L. I am still "under the influence" of the newness, I am sure a lot of people here will understand that. It is soooo nice, not a scratch, chip, flaw, so perfect, I am trying to prolong the newness as long as possible. Truth is my Tundra will be a working truck so it is going to get beat up a little :(
I got it to tow horses and a dump trailer, to get feed for the horses. Haul stuff to the dump, bring loads of construction material home and to go get firewood, etc.... I am replacing my 3rd toyota 1/2 ton truck, a '93 with 200,420 miles on it. Still going strong, that little 4 banger will probably last forever. I need to sell that old truck, but have been reluctant cause I have had it so long, can't seem to part with it.

I have a grade model truck, my plans were to not really do much to the truck, just add a brake controller and go. But I now have a list of things I want to do/add on....

1) subwoofer - I want to install an infinity basslink under the back seat

2) Storage under back seat, that fits around the sub

3) brake controller - I am going to try to install it where the ash tray is, I think I can fabricate some rails so that I can slide out the tray, and slide in the brake controller when I am towing. That way when I tow I can stow the controller, and put the ashtray back (coin tray for me) and maintain the clean lines of the interior. Or I might just duct tape it to the steering column, lol, just kidding.

4) a rear step, but want one that is clean, almost invisible when it is stowed.

5) Add at least a gas tank skid plate - The truck has an engine skid plate from the factory, not the fancy TRD aluminum one, just a nice piece of good 'ol steel. I won't be doing any hard core boonie bouncing in the Tundra but I live in the mountains and have to do a lot of driving on snowy, muddy dirt roads in the winter just to get around. When I look under my truck it looks vulnerable. I do have mixed feeling about adding skids because of the extra weight and the impact on gas mileage. Has anyone ever heard of removable skid plates?

6) I need to get 2 sets of tire chains and find a good way to stow these securely. I would appreciate anyone's opinion on what the best snow chains are. Chains that would help with traction is mud would be good too.

Well that is it for now, I know, quite a ramble for an introduction, but hey, I am just excited about my new truck!

Thanks everyone!!

Robert, aka meatWAD :th_coffee:

Have a factory installed 7 pin socket. top four pins are like 10 and 11 and 1 and 2 positions on a clock. These pins have juice and I wired the trailer wires them. Problem is that they are on at all times that the engine is running. I am wondering how to get them to turn off during the day time. All things-turn signals, stop lights, running lights work fine except as I say -all the lights are lit up as soon as I turn on the ignition. Any ideas as to how I can the trailer lights to light when I turn on the parking / headlights and off at other times?

Thanks,
The Newby: RL

Dear Fellow Members,

I just purchased my first Toyota; a 2006 Tundra regular cab, auto, V6 4.0L, very basically equipped with 50K miles on it. From all the information I've read and heard, it should be a reliable truck. I've only had it a few days, but I like it really well so far. Fell free to let me know if there are things I should be aware of on this model, good or bad.

This looks like a fun site. Looking foreward to spending some time here.

We had just about closed a deal on a new Chevy Crew Cab, but my wife wanted to stop at the Toyota dealership. When we drove the new Tundra, it was almost one of those "gotta have it" moments. The quality was just impressive, the 5.7L accelerated great, and none of the domestics even offer a cab filter....what's up with that? We have lots of dirt roads and dusty conditions, so are looking foreward to an outfit that won't have a dust storm coming through the HVAC outlets. Now to find a good grill guard.....lots of deer and cattle here.
