Take a look at this article from Motor Trend that Chicks found and posted on the thread "A Little Worried." It mentions the tail gate issue as another possible issue with the Tundra.

Has anyone noticed if all the trucks with the tailgate problem where assembled in the same place, or were they assembled in both plants?

Mine looks fine, but only had it down once just to show someone how easy it is to close. Tooks some pictures for reference if they are ever needed. Looks like RarJar and Alaskacub have a paint warrenty issue (Did I see some rust or was it just the lighting?)

The guy with the white truck pics with skin buckling looks like it had had something in the center that creased the tailgate.
Judging from the dirt in the bed at center, I'm going to guess it was a motorcycle/dirt bike that was jumped out the back end.

His pic is interesting though, the pic showing the gate up reveals that the very top of the gate has pulled up some underneith the black trim piece at top of gate. Noticed that AlaskaCubs is also pulling away from the rest of the gate. Maybe something to do with inside seam across top of gate under black trim as well.

When I first joined this Forum, the big tailgate issue was it's locking mechanism failure.
At that time I wondered out loud in a post if Toyota was starting to cut corners (like the Big 3 has for years) by using "plastic clips" and now it appears they are replacing welds with "putty sealant." Jeeeezus, is this the beginning of the Americanization of Toyota. Dayum, what a shame!!!!!

No it was a golf cart that rode for an hour back there and the dirt is from using the truck to Work out of. It is actually gear oil spilled from an AX15 transmision I hauled to the MDR desert race for someone who broke the night before the race. I also haul large amounts of Industrial coating from time to time. It is a truck, At least that is what the adds claim. the Gate should hold up to everything I have done to it. My chevys always have.

My buddy uses and Ultimate Rack on his F350 to haul his quads. It leaves him room load stuff under the quads. A benefit is that it does not use the tailgate to load the quad. It is easy to remove. It uses four tie-downs on the corners. It does take a lot of room.
Not what I need, but maybe something you guys might be interested in.

That looks pretty awesome - would love to find something like that that goes just above the wheel wells (to support a sleeping platform)

It would be an easy build. Probly 4 hours plus material. Don't know where you are but under $500 would do it I bet.
