Just wanted to link to my pics to this thread for reference. Sorry they're not very good, but you get the point. If I can remember to swipe the camera outta the Mrs.' briefcase- I mean, purse- I'll take some better ones.

Even if it is (I'll look for it later) that's a stupidly low number. What if you're a fat kid?

Ask him exactly where it is located. It is significant enough that many would not have bought the truck if they knew it was not to be used - as a truck. [well obviously it is a great towing machine.

I don't think it states a weight rating anywhere in the manual. Nor does it tell you to take off the tailgate to load heavy items. It does say that the strut acts as a dampener while riding with the tailgate down and they do sell tailgate extenders so that you can use the tailgate area to carry stuff. Here's a thread from TS on tailgate facts:

Hell, I am 280 pounds at least and I sit or climb on the tailgate all the time. It has to hold more than that. I haven't noticed an issue yet.

Well the Toyota factory rep denied my claim due to outside forces being the cause of the tail gate failure. No surprise, they have not heard the end of me I will push as far as I can. I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I was happy with this truck till now but it seems Toyota does not think the Tail gate needs to support more than 200lbs. Keep an eye on your gates I bet you all are having issues soon. Hope not but every one I have seen since I had this happen has had the start of failure on the sides of the gate.
