| I don't have many pictures of the cows or other livestock, for some reason they aren't that interesting to me as far as pctures go. In the last few years we have cut back our cattle herds, we just keep enough to keep out tax status intact. So right now we have 100 cows which have just calved, so the toatal is a little over 200. We will probably cut the # of cows back to 50 by the end of the year. Calif. is not rancher friendly anymore. We can't legally kill predators any more, and if we do have a problem, we aren't allowed to kill them, a Govt. hunter has to come up to do the job, and the regulations do't make it worth it. We also aren't allowed to use cattle trucks to take the cows to market, so we have to haul them 10 at a time over 200 miles, which isn't cost effective. There are a lot of other problems, but you get the idea. The cows we raise now are Charolais and Charolais X Herefords. The Charolais are big fairly mean cattle and the cats, bears and coyotes usually leave them alone. My sister has about a dozen Arabians that she shows all over the country, and we have wild hogs, don't know how many, but we or our friends whack 50 or so each year. We are bordered by a 45,000 acre Redwood State Park, so they come and go as they please. We also have about 20 nanny goats and few Billy's. By last Fall the population was about 60 goats, but through the winter the population is back down to 20, the coyotes and cats like them. We use the goats as brush control. Here is a picture of one of our Charolais bulls, we have two that are brothers and are 11 years old.Now that I think about it, this picture is of the brothers father, the brand isn't ours.

| This was taken out of my kitchen window. The snow covered ridge in the background is part of the the upper ranch 7 1/2 miles away. Most of the ranch is to the right out of view. ![]() This is my bss pond, also taken out the kitchen window, it is 200 ft below the house.I took out the cat tails and trees in the foreground and to the right. ![]() This is Noyo Harbor, Ft. Bragg. The Empress is a 60 year old wooden commerical Salmon fishing boat that my family has had a small interest in for over 50 years.Commerical salmon fishing is nearly extinct, so it is used for bottom fish and tuna, but it mostly just sits in the harbor with all the other out of work boats. |

| You have to remember I live in California, my way of life is going to be extinct in a few years. Anyone who makes a living utilizing natrual resources is an enemy of the State and unfortunately most of the people feel the same way. I took a gander at year area on Google Earth, looks like a nice mix of woodlands and open range, just a little on the flat side. I have to say, if I had a huge lake in my back yard I would be on it all the time. It is a little on the shallow side and has the wrong kind of fish, but I could adapt. |
