Installing a dvd radio in 07 part 1

This is the first pictures of my install of a Kenwood DDX6019 dvd player stereo in my 07. The kit I got does have the glossy piano black finish and the beveled side to match the factory trim.

Continuation of radio install this weekend

My Sirius adapter came in so I can procede with the change out right away with pics to follow. The Metra kit came with good instructions how to remove the factory radio though I have already done this once before.
If anyone is interested in the factory 6 disk radio or the Sirius tuner and adapter for the factory radio email me off the list.

Radio installation part 2

I did not take as many pre installation pics as I had hoped to bur with 37 degrees and rain falling and working on the truck outdoors i did not want to take much time working until I could hook up the electrical and start the truck and turn the heater on.

Radio installation part 3

I had to divide this into 2 posts to get all the pictures in. This installation took me about 30 minutes. The instructions that came with the Metra kit would take you through the job but since I have been installing car stereos simce the days lf 8 track players I usually figure out everything myself.

Radio install part 4

Sorry my camera did not want to focus up close and I had to turn the flash off so the video screen would show up but everything is readable. I must say that I thought the factory radio sounded fairly good with the stock speakers but this high end Kenwood blows that away. Much more dynamic range, better highs and lows, more undistorted volume even with the builtin amp. (there is a amplified sub behind the drivers seat though).
If any of you are ham radio operators I will show my mobile installation also Kenwood!

Now I need to figure out how to separate the dash tweeters from the 6X9's in the doors so I can use all 4 channels of the factory amp since a reg cab has no rear speakers. There are built in High pass filters for both front and rear channels so you can set the low end limit separately for the tweeters and the 6X9s. This is an unbelievable quality radio. I had a high end Pioneer Premier head unit in my 04 Ram and it was very good but nothing to compete with the Kenwood. As good as this thing sounds I wonder what can be gained from better speakers than the ones that come in the Tundra (non JBL)
I have tried all kinds of music on this radio and it just blows me away. I know I am 61 but I have been a DJ many times and I still do mobile DJ work with a 2400 watt system driving 2 18's, 4 15's and 2 compression horn tweeters so I am used to loud music and no I am not deaf either!!!

Separating the dash speakers from the door speakers

That turned out to be real easy. All I did was to remove the kick panels and found the plug in each side that only had 2 wires in it and whilw the radio was playing i unpluged these and when the door speaker went silent I knew I had the right wire. therefore I ran a new pair of wires from the rear chanel on the head unit to these wires and left the front chanel alone to operate the dash speakers. The radio allows seperate high pass filters for each pair so i set the front to 220hz and the doosr to 40hz and the sub crossover to 60hz to allow a little overlap. This sounds wonderful and it will play very loud without distorting. Next I need to sell my Sirius tuner and adaptor for the Factory radio and my Pioneer GPS unit and buy the gps option for the Kenwood stereo. I gotta get the backup camera going too!
Here are a couple of screen shots of a Cher in concert DVD. My camera just does not like close ups.
