Dash issues?

I've been having some squeaking issues in my dash for some time, I tracked it to the pass. side where the front dash insert meets with the a-pillar trim. I took it in to the service dept. where I bought it and they got right on it, ordered a-pillar trim and they figured they fixed it. It's no better and I think my dash has warped. Here's some pics after the dealership worked on it, let me know what you think. Sorry about the crappy job of highlighting areas but I'm not known for my art skills, lol.
Drivers side, circled area where the front dash insert meets the a-pillar trim, nice and flush-

Pass. side, circled area where the front dash insert meets the a-pillar trim, not so flush and sqeaks like crazy

circled area seems to have a hump in it and it looks as if the front dash insert is warped too-

another shot of the warped area-

yet another shot-

Am I seeing things or is my dash warped

It does seem to bulge a little in your pictures.

There is a TSB NV009-06 for the window, but doesnt include 07/08 Tundras because we dont have the lower clips.

I had the same clicking sound at the window and there is a simple fix that takes about 2 minutes. As the weather changes this time of year the plastic on the dash expands and contracts and rubs on the lower edge under the dash. If you lye on your back on the passengers side you can see a big hole that goes all the way to the top of the dash and you'll see the underside of the dash speaker. You'll see a small lip where the dash rests on a metal trim/edge. Take a small folded up piece of felt or old rag (doesnt have to be too big) and fold it tight and wedge it in between the metal lip and the plastic lower part of the dash. Doing this creates about 1/4" of space between the two pieces and eliminates the noise. No need to take apart the dash or waste a day at the dealer.

If that doesnt work you might have the rattle where the two plastic heater vents are rubbing together. See if this sounds more like what you have. I wrote this back in November and my dash is still quiet. Finally fixed my dash rattle - Tundra Solutions Forum

For what its worth, my dash looks the same at the pillars as yours does. Drivers side sits flush and pass. side is offset. I'm almost willing to bet the dealer has used some padding in the center to pretty much make the space and thats why your dash is looking warped.

Good luck,

Mark

I'm not sure if they fixed your squeak or not, but I had the same one. Mine was in front of the speaker on the passenger side where the dash and metal under the dash meet. It would only do it when it was cold and went away once it warmed up, but it was enough to drive me up the wall. I took out my dash speaker and placed some "blue stick" (blue stick was in the super glue section at local hardware store) rolled up with in the gap. I had to put it on the end of a small flat head screw driver, but once I did it's been great. I've noticed a lot of people with the same issue, on the same side, so it must be some kind of issue.

Exact same issue here, although probably not as loud/annoying. It also does it for about 5-minutes, until the cab heats up a bit. I usually can't stand for squeaks or rattles, but this one, in my case anyway, is tolerable. If it gets any worse, though I'll have to do something about it.

in my 07 cm, where the a-pillar trim meets the dash there is a piece of felt (or something similar, black fabric stuff). It looks like it's just beel slapped into place haphazardly, so it was a definate after-the-fact addition. Not sure if it was toyota, or the dealer that did it - i'd guess it was for this issue though.

Yep, had the squeak too, both sides. there was a TSB out on this for many models going back to the mid 90's. The TSB involved removing the entire dash to cut off the windshield alignment pins used in manufacturing.

My dealer said I got to be a guinea pig - they put some stickyback felt around the pins as a faster solution to removing them. It took an hour to complete. They must have started to roll this fix out now.

I didnt have any warpage of the dash though, that must be something completely different.
That windshield dash vent area gets pretty hot though when the defroster is on.

I would think as a preventative measure, those of us who live in an area that gets really hot summers should also consider using windshield screens. Before I bought my screen, I was amazed at how hot the dash was after sitting in the gulf coast sun on a summer day. Can't be good for the old plastic!
