Tundra Cabin Air Filter

I decided to check and see what my cabin air filter looked like. I has been a couple weeks shy of 1 year and 10k miles.
Besides the leaves, the pleats were fairly black from the dust/dirt, but not as bad as some I have had.
Looks like the next time I am in town I will pick up another filter.
The owners manual shows how to do this, it literally takes less than a minute.

For comparison, this is what the the filters looked like in my Titan after 10k. The pleats in the Titan were full of dirt/crap and the pleats had started to rot away. There are two smaller filters in the Titan, while we have 1 large filter.

That Titan filter looks pretty bad.

I'm willing to bet I have oak leafs in my cabin filter. Those things get EVERYWHERE and in every little nook and cranny.

It was the leaves blowing around and making a racket that induced me to look at the filters.

The air flow on my Titan dropped by at least 50% with the dirty filters. The air flow dropped gradually, so It took a while to notice.
There should be other options available for the filters. On the Titan, NAPA sold the filters for $10 or less than the dealer. There was also available a permanent, life time, washable filter available. It also had an activated charcoal version available also.
Some of the former Titan owners here may have bought some of these filters and tell us how good they are and could tell us where to get them.

I just put in a new filter today, I immediately noticed an increase in airflow coming out of the vents.
This is a picture of the old filter turned inside out, do that you can see the color of the pleats.

It is behind the lower glove box.

Go to the following site and pick your year:
WELCOME TO TOYOTAiGUIDE.COM

Put in all your truck info.
Then click "Climate Control" and then "Cabin Air Filter"

It will show you a video of how to remove the glove box and get to the filter.

Thanks. I did find it on the cd disk that came with the truck. This is the first vehicle that I have owned with a filter in it. I bought my first car in 1966. I have owned many since then mostly American makes. Aparently Japanese engineers care more about your health.
BTW I see Dodge will increase the output of their hemi truck to 380hp in the future. They don't like being in 3rd place in the hp wars. I wonder what it will do the fuel mileage since my 5.7 Tundra gets better towing mileage than my 04 hemi ram by nearly 3 mpg and with 36 more hp to boot!
