Got my windows tinted with Llumar

I had contacted the local Llumar distributor twice over the last 6 months. They finally passed on my information to a local installer and he contacted me yesterday. His shop is about 50 miles east of me. However, this week he was working in another shop 30 miles west of me. He said he could get my truck in today and get it done while I waited. So I called around to a few other places and got their prices for tint on a CM. Most all of them charge $149 for various brands. This guy was offering $149 for Llumar and $25 for the tint band on the front windshield. I figured it was a good price and worth not messing with it doing it myself. I COULD do it myself, but getting Llumar tint would be a big problem and it wouldn't have the warranty.

So I head over there to get it done. I had originally planned to just get a layer of 35 all the way around, even over the factory rear tint. Then I start talking to the guy and we talk me into getting 35 in the front (to remain legal) and 15 over the rear windows. That way it's not TOO dark at night. If it is, I have a rear camera and I have a CM so I can just roll down the rear window if needed. Honestly, I would love 15 on the front windows, but I don't need to give officers a reason to pull me over. I'm OK with leaving those legal.

Then the other guy starts offering me all the "upgrades". Seems the stuff they are using is the 3 year warranty film. For an extra $35 I get the transferable lifetime nationwide warranty. OK, I guess I'll get that. Then they offer a scratch guarantee for another $35 meaning if the tint is scratched for any reason, bring it to them and they replace it for free. Normally I would skip that, but I figured I do mod the truck and no telling when I might slip or something. I plan to gut the truck soon so a scratch warranty might come in handy. So I went ahead and got it. Then they throw in a "shop materials" charge and my grand total is $250 and change. I can live with it I guess.

They did an OK job. I did find a little trash under the tint. So I might take it back to them sometime to redo. Might need to be under scratch warranty. The tint band was less than perfect. They have a computer cut all the tint for them. Seems either the tint band pattern is off or my windshield mirror is off-center. They covered the gap and it's behind the mirror so it's not a big deal. It's not cut to the curve of the window so it comes down below the AS1 mark. I'll see how I like that long term. In my old car I didn't like it that much.

And of course, I took a couple of pictures. Cause if there aren't any pictures, then it never happened. Fronts are 35, rears are factory 15 and another 15 over it. So around 2% in the rear windows? Easy to see out of them during the day. Might be a little dark at night.

Looks good. Why not get your whole front windshield tinted with, say, 50? Not dark enough for anyone to really notice, but on the inside it makes everything a perfect brightness.

It did cross my mind. But as soon as I get that first inspection, it would fail. In Texas, inspections are every year and they use a razor blade to remove the old sticker on the windshield. That razor blade would go right through the tint.

Think putting that 50 tint on my front, would reduce the glare off my Z3 screen? That thing is basically useless to me during the day.

I'll never own another vehicle without a 50 tint on the windshield. I no longer ever wear sunglasses when driving, I don't get as bad glare off the hood of my truck, and my dash isn't getting fried when I park in the sun.

I don't have any screens to look at in my truck to know for sure, but I would definitely think you would be able to cut down on the glare on your Z3 by tinting your windshield.

Looks good. The back is pretty dark, but I think it's fine.

Looks can be deceiving. I really haven't washed the truck in at least a month or more. Last time I washed the truck, I polished the whole thing top to bottom. That Toyota polish seems to be working great.

The 50 on the windshield will help some for the radio glare. Mine was better after getting the doors done.

I checked how well the dark tint worked with the truck in reverse at night. I can still see a little out the back at night outside the city. Rear camera and rolling back window will come in handy. Darker would not have been good.
