Foam inside door

Inside the door panel there is a foam piece. On the rear doors of the CM they are all foam. On the front door, they are foam and a honeycomb plastic. So my question is, are they really needed?

They look like they are some kind of brace for the window when it is rolled down. They don't touch the window. But it's like they are there incase the window moves side to side. There are no noticeable marks on the clear plastic between them and the windows that would suggest they have ever been needed. So you think it's OK to remove them? I already cut out one rear one.

Front door. Note the recess in the clear plastic.

Here's the honeycomb part on the door panel:

What do you think? No future problems?

Bed bounce = bad

The reason why I an asking is because I am replacing the clear plastic with sheet metal and sound lining the doors. The bumpout in the door panel hits the sheet metal panel I made.

Tox if I understand what you are describing, I think the plastic is seal for moisture and drafts. The foam, for noise & insulation?
I remember removing the plastic on one of my old cars, I was surprised at the cold drafts around the door handle.

I understand what the clear plastic is for. I drove around without the door panel on and there was some noticeable wind noise from that door. I assume from the door handle.

I am wondering about the part circled:

That part sticks into the door past the clear plastic. I assume it's some kind of glass support for when the window is rolled down. But there are no marks like it has done anything. Can I remove it without any future problems?

Here's what is behind the clear plastic. This will be on the other side of the window when the glass is rolled down.

You think these are there for the window or do you think they are there to support the door panel? Like if you push in on the door panel, these are there to support the center if the panel is pushed too hard. Maybe?

The thick foam I think is a safety feature. Incase of a side impact , it should help. I know Ford put foam in the door panels of the F-150 for safety reasons.

Wow Leave, if that's accurate, sure seems to me like they would have covered more of the door with the foam. My bet is it has something to do with supporting/keeping the glass away from the door panel.

Oh I see what you're looking at. Is that behind the speaker? Maybe something to take the "ting and twaing" out of your country music.
