| Fixed..............................for now So the factory guy came up and the code was reset and they were driving it around and the code would not come back so they said well it looks like it's ok now. Through some digging on the web, I found the Toyota diagnosis procedure for 2 different engines than the 5.7, but the procedure was identical. It required checking a bunch of stuff, some electrical some mechanical. I asked if they had done all of this and was told well sort of. I said what parts have you not done. They said, well we will pull the one for the 5.7 engine and do the steps and get back to you. The process involves checking the sensors, oil control valves, oil control valve filters and the ECM. They found some grit in the filters so changed the trucks oil. They said it was no more grit than normal for a new engine break in. They changed the oil in the truck 2 more times with no grit noted. So I have the truck back with direction to take it in at 1500 miles and 5000 miles for a Toyota funded oil and filter change. If no grit and no other problems they will declare victory and so will I. The dealer had the truck cleaned and gave me a full tank of gas along with a couple of Hats. Heritage Toyota has been fantastic through all of this. I will be back to them in the future for parts and other stuff. If I bring in a price off the internet for parts, they always match it, so great for me to deal local. As a side note, in my every day life I have studied the Toyota Production system and Lean methods, Toyota pretty much has a documented process for everything, so if your dealer just resets the code to see if it comes back again, dig around or ask them, What does Toyota's documented diagnosis process say to do, ask to see it. If they won't show it to you, dig on the web, I bet you can find it. If not get a subscription to the TIS system and pull it down yourself. I have done this twice with the factory guys and both times I have forced them into finding the problem, in this case, grit in the oil control valve filters. They would not have found it by resetting the code and driving it around for a while. So the good news is the Beast is back in my stable and seems to be running great. Now I plan to start installing some of the modes I have seen on this forum, rear diff vent, folding back seat, glass breakage sensor, auto dimming mirror to start, maybe more in the future. Thanks for all the help guys. |

| How many tundras does your dealer sell and service. They might not be too familiar with it. I bought mine from the Lathem dealer and they are good. I check the lot frequently and the tundras are always different. A bigger positive is that several of the mechanics have tundras, mostly 2nd gen. so I think they have a more vested interest. So in your deal, did they transfer the extended warrenty to the new one? |

| nhinnhuckyduc I go to Heritage Toyota in South Burlington. They move Tundras. Either they trade them with other dealers or they sell them. I see alot of them around with their tag on the truck, so I think they move them. One of the main mechanics is driving a second generation tundra so I think they are interested. With this last issue, when I originally went in I just told them to give me a new truck, that is why they called the factory guy up, because they were not even going to mess with it. The local people did not want to touch the truck because of my past history and the fact I told them I wanted a new one now! The local guys pull the procedures and work through the issues, at least for me, they know I will ask to see them. The truck ran well this weekend and I am starting to install all the emergency lights and siren on this truck. Thanks for all the help and advice, it has helped me get through all these issues. Now I am going to drive this truck and start having some fun with it. |

| i do, my wife had a celica, toyota forgot to put the drain plug in after an oil change, and the engine seized. Toyota picked up the car put a plug in, changed the oil, and got it to start, and tried to send it back saying it's ok, Toyotas are made to take abuse. I refused to pick it up. We went to arbitration and lost. Needless to say she now drives a tacoma not a celica. We just one year before beat ford in arbitration due to a surging problem.

| Factory Fixes Hey everyone. The saga has not ended for the Tundra and I. I had another check engine light come on last week. Back to the dealer. They said it was a problem with the air injection pumps and they needed to be replaced. There was a TSB on it. So they did and all is good. I was back at the dealer again today for an oil change, to make sure there was nothing wrong with the engine after the first check engine light. (Read earlier posts). They did the oil change and all is good, but they told me they had heard from the factory that there maybe an issue that needs to be fixed and to stand by for a possible solution from the factory. Once again more evidence to make sure Toyota follows the written procedure, it forces things to happen. |

| Man...you just can't get a break. I hope this gets taken care of soon and doesn't turn into another saga like your last truck. Good luck.
