21st Century Modern Weapons

So a few weeks ago an old shipmate of mine and master armorer called and asked if I'd like to come down to Okla City for a by invitation only gun expo and since I hadn't seen him for almost 4 years and wanted to touch basis with the Ducati dealership anyway, I jumped on the Harley and ran down there.

Now let me make one thing clear. I am not a gun fanatic nor collector by any means. As a matter of fact except for my skeet shotguns which is an addiction I've only owned 2 handguns, a .357 Colt Lawman MK III snub nose revolver that I carry when riding and my 92FS that goes everywhere out here in the boonies. I also have my varmint long gun a 444 lever action Marlin and these have served me well for decades.

Anyway, I went to this expo and we walked up to a table and my friend picked up what I thought was a Sig Sauer 550 except the magazine didn't look right and when I looked for the switch on the side to go from single to 3 burst and full Auto it was missing and that's when my friend informed me that it was the civilian version of the 550 but designated 556. I was able to shoot it at both close in targets and then with a Leupold's mark IV CQ/T at 100 yards and man was this accurate.

The second thing I stumbled onto was the Sig 250. This handgun is is based on a serialized modular frame and a fire-control assembly that allows you to easily configure the pistol, by changing caliber, grip size, trigger and slide length at will. It can be configured in the privacy of your own living room from full size, compact and sub-compact pistol in 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 and .45 ACP. I was able to shoot it configured in both full and sub compact .357 and 45 ACP and I was very impressed.

So all week long all I can think of are these two guns and by Saturday I'm still obsessing so I take the Marlin and Colt out to the backyard and shoot 50 rounds a piece through them to clear the cobwebs but by yesterday I can't fight it any more so I gather up the Marlin, Colt, speedloaders, ammo's and cases and drop them off at my brother-in-laws and on the way home I buy the P250 for myself........................

and the 556 for the Queen!

those ROCK Squid!!!! I carried a Sig P-229 .40 cal. on duty for years and I have to say the only reason I stopped is because the finish was getting worn and I couldn't bare it any longer. It's hard to beat a Sigarms! Congrats on the purchase!!!

Very nice combination squid! I love my Sig P220 compact, very accurate and just "feels right" in my hand.

Yep, have the Sig P226 9mm and love it! That said Squid, I sure like the looks and the versatility of the P250... hmmm, wonder how much trouble I'd be in at home if I bought yet another pistol? LOL!

Very nice! I like my Sig Mosquito (although I need to get the trigger worked on... it feels horrible in comparison to the XDm!) for plinking.

So what is the larger Sig that yours is pictured next to? And what other configurations did you purchase the parts for?

I hate to ask but what was the damage on the P250? I've been looking on gunbroker for a Sig in .357sig for the last few months.

I had no use for them anymore. The 250 replaces the Colt and the 556 replaces the Marlin so true my word I let him have them.

That's my old beloved Beretta 92fs that I threw in there as a comparison. The P250 is a 9mm and I picked up the .357 subcompact Conversion.

I paid $650 for the compact 9mm with night sights and the conversions are in the $350 range.

D@mn Squid! I've been thinking about getting another home defense weapon........ You really increased my "Buy Fever", LOL. I was thinking more along the lines of a 12 gauge shotgun with a short barrel. Enjoy!
