| GM Concerned About Tundra As Silverado Sales Slide DETROIT -- General Motors may boost incentives on its full-sized pickups to compete with Toyota's spiffs on the Tundra pickup. Toyota's incentives on 2006 and 2007 Tundras include $3,000 in customer cash and 60-month interest-free loans. The all-new Tundra was introduced early this year. "We didn't anticipate Toyota would go 0 for 60 on a brand-new truck. That was a bit of a curveball," said Paul Ballew, GM's executive director of global market and industry analysis, in a sales conference call today. "We're evaluating our options right now so I would say watch this space." In June, Toyota sold 21,727 Tundras, up 146.3 percent from June 2006. For the first six months of 2007, Toyota has sold 82,840 Tundras, up 44.2 percent from last year. GM offers $1,500 to $2,000 on various 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickups and $4,000 to $5,000 on 2006 Silverados. GM offers $1,750 to $2,750 on 2007 GMC Sierra pickups and $4,250 on 2006 models. In June, Silverado sales fell 23.5 percent from a year ago to 44,955. For the first six months of 2007, Silverado sales are down 2 percent from last year. Sierra sales in June plummeted 26.5 percent from June 2006 to 15,187. For the first six months of 2007, Sierra sales are down 2.3 percent from last year. "We don't need to match dollar for dollar," Ballew said. "But we're not going to concede ground in a category we feel we're best in class in. The game's on." Higher fuel prices hurt GM's full-sized pickup sales in June, but Ballew says the mix in the category is richer as GMC Yukon Denali sales inched up, helping GM to maximize profits. "The remaining buyer base in that category wants the product with all the bells and whistles," Ballew says. "The transaction prices have gone up, and we've shown restraint on the incentive side

| Its always gonna be a game. Right now EVERONE is giving away incentives on trucks. I guess you heard by now that Nissan is offering 5k back? That makes for a outstanding buy. Just remember that if you do decide on the Tundra...that the dealers will negotiate. Get your best deal and then compare the two.

| I agree..... Right now it is a buyers market. I am looking into getting a second truck, and I am torn between the Titan and the new Tundra. Doing my research, there is not a lot of difference in price between comparably equipped vehicles. My Titan has been bullet proof, (not even a rattle), but I have to really consider Toyota's excellent reliability record. |

| Neither of you will be disappointed with the Tundra...even after your flaw free Titan experience! The truck is different, not better...just different. The strong points are its sheer power. The weak points...well I haven't found them yet! Oh the radio controls are too far away for my short arms! The Whale parks like it was a car, easy on the eyes, and did I mention It can take the Titan? You don't want Mrs. COOT or Mrs. Squid having a faster truck than you! JT always has the faster truck. ![]() |
