SOUND OFF: Should Toyota Make a Hybrid Tundra? - AutoSpies Auto News

They have already said they are planning to make a 4.7L hybrid for 2009 or 2010. Supposedly the truck is already designed to incorporate the hybrid technology into it.

Toyota already has a medium/heavy duty cab style flatbed truck called the Toyota Dyna that is a diesel electric hybrid engines and its emmisions meet the european standards.

Here's the links for the Tundra hybrid. After rereading, it's more speculation based on Toyota saying they are looking into the hybrid Tundra possibility and a Toyota-Isuzu (or Hino) diesel hybrid like they already have in Japan.

400hp and 20/25MPG works for me but isn't this around what diesel engines offer and I also wonder how much more the hybrid would cost to buy?

That 400hp and 20/25MPG would be a gasoline electric hybrid.

As for the price, look at the Lexus hybrid that just came out. Their gasoline LS costs around $85K with 380hp. Their new gas electric hybrid LS costs around $125K with 438hp and doesn't really get that much better milage.

There LS 460 base is 61k the LS 460 L (L= long wheel base) base is 71k and the LS 600h L base 104K and LS 600h L launch edition is the one in the 125k area of pricing.

The launch edition, which is already for sale through neiman marcus has a special color, special wheels, special color interior, safety features and a few more extras that are not available in the regular LS 600h L version.

I do believe you get a boost in hp with the hybrid version, but not a whole lot in the way of fuel economy.

If I remember correctly the hybrids on the lexus vehicles usually add about 10k to the price of the vehicle.

I believe the Tundra hybrid is just a rumor and nothing official from Toyota. Time will tell if they make a hybrid or just a diesel version

Go to a Lexus dealer and try to buy a base model. They don't have them. Most of them come almost fully equipped. All the LS 460L you find will be over 80K. Course that is IF you can find one on the lot. The hybrid should be similarly equipped/priced.

I know that is a gas hybrid and my question was isn't that the same numbers that the diesel engines are putting out plus throw in an incredible amount of torque? If so then why buy a gas hybrid ?
