Tundra "Rice Ready"

Associated Press
SAVANNAH, Ga. – A Ford dealer angered over the proposed bailout of U.S. automakers blames the nation's sour economy on Congress and criticized buyers of Japanese cars, calling the vehicles "rice ready ... not road ready" in a radio ad. O.C. Welch, who owns a dealership near Savannah in Hardeeville, S.C., began airing the minute-long ad on a dozen stations in the area over the weekend. The ad sounds more like a talk-radio tirade than a sales pitch. "All you people that buy all your Toyotas and send that money to Japan, you know, when you don't have a job to make your Toyota car payment, don't come crying to me," Welch says in the ad. "All those cars are rice ready. They're not road ready."

Sounds like a whole lotta sour grapes to me. So, what does he suggest... we ban all imported cars? After all, that may be the only thing that would allow the Big 3 to compete again. IMHO, if they wanna compete, make a quality product that people will buy instead of the junk their pouring out today. Sorry for the rant, but this guy really ticks me off.

I agree. If they want to beat the competition then they should build cars as good or better than the competition. And they shouldn't complain about foreign competition when they have plants in Mexico as well as over seas.

I was under the impression that my Tundra was built by US workers about 180 miles south of me.
Jim in Waco, Texas. I previously owned a Mexican built Ford and a Canadian built Dodge.

Yeah, sure if funny that you see more old foreign cars on the roads than American built. The auto industry still has not figured out why we are buying foreign......Better quality over profits. But one day after the American automakers are gone they may figure that out.

Thumbs down Pretty lame attack.....

Just what in the hell does "rice ready" mean anyways, LOL.

Build a better product at competetive prices and we will come. Try designing a car/truck that looks half-way pleasing to the eye too while you are at it.

This was a lame attempt to stir up anti-Japanese sentiment from the WWII crowd.

At least Toyota has built several plants in our country to help out with employment - vs. outsourcing jobs to Canada and Mexico.

And Toyota is not bullied by the UAW into paying rediculous wages for semi-skilled and skilled workers. Do a little research and you will find that Toyota pays more than fair, but reasonable wages to its workers. It keeps them happy and they put out a good product.
