| Hmmmm, interesting. I am beginning to wonder if I made the right decision with the Tundra. I was a little worried about buying a first model year vehicle, but I figured with Toyota it was a sure bet. I love my truck, but I don't want something that's going to be in the shop all the time. It's a real bummer that I might need to have transmission work done with less than 2000 miles on the truck. Any thoughts from the crew???

| i put close to $59K.. now i am starting to hear noises and dont even know if its real or not after reading all this blog.. Does the vibration start at about 80Km (50 miles) and gets louder as u go faster ?? I have slight low pitch buzzing but thinking its just the fron bug defector because i can see it slightly vibrate at highway speeds... i did same thing - Went with the TUndra due to Toyota bullet proof rept over GM. oh well - maybe just some small hickups... I hope !!

| It happens around 35-40 under slow acceleration. From what I heard, Toyota is replacing the entire transmission in trucks with problems. Though that will probably change for later reported problems.

| I have a trip planned at the end of this month where I have to pull my travel trailer. I'm going to wait until after that because I don't want to get caught with my truck in the shop during that time, but I am definately going to address it with my dealer. |

| I've been back and forth with regrete on this too Pat, let me begin the healing Sorry for the novel guys... We have all read that some have had their whole tranny replaced. It is pretty typical when diagnosing anything to look at the big picture (e.g. the whole transmission). I read someone's post in diff. forum about how the guy was offered a buyback from Toyota for the whole truck. I am guessing that the problem isnt with the tranny itself, despite the frequent mention of the torque converter (why would they need the whole truck to test?). IMHO, It's most likely a programming overlap/collision of the learning modes and long duration modes in the ECM modules in the Transmission and/or Engine that can be fixed as quick as downloading a file. Its not like this is going to set the vehicle on fire, causing accidents or injuries. Its not even known if this is a symptom. Some have noticed a similar issue in other brands of vehicles that have gone 200,000m. Its just plain way to early to know the full impact, or even affect vehicle function/lifespan. Toyota has used this tranny before in production. If it is a huge mechanical problem (doubtful), then they will need to fix it for the next 6 years on current models (ones that have ext warrenty) plus all additional trucks sold until another redesign (7yrs from now). I've also read that Toyota plans to offer the 6spd in other models. In other words, it's financially going to be easier for them to fix it, then not to. I have avoided doing any upgrades/mods to mine till they test mine again this week. It is frusterating since I want to get those done, but want everything stock for thier testing. I do not think they have isolated the problem yet and is why they plan to run some test on it (No TSBs on mine). Give them some time yet. As for the tailgate, it looks like Toyota came through. As for the Bed Bounce, its not different then how some other trucks bounce due to the wheel base spacing. I was nervous about this one since I want to put a topper on it. After doing a little mud pounding this weekend (sorry, no pics) I'm satisfied that it wont be an issue unless you really BEAT your vehicles to the point of being a launch test pilot. I think the majority of people posting issues is a small margin of owners. If you are upset, where are you going to turn to first if you arent satisfied with the dealer/mfg response to how you beat your vehicle outside the guidelines of a warrenty claim? (INTERNET) As I have read, there are a lot of people out to blame toyota for thier own stupidity (Myself included in this one at times). This also gets amplified by the "Other Guys" since it helps boost the trade in value they'll get for what they are driving now, when they go to get their Tundra 3/4ton deisel. It is generally acceptable to feel regret after signing on to that big line of credit to find your purchase isnt perfect. No auto manufacturer is without issues. I encourage you to read a lot - e.g. this forum, jump over to other manufacturers forums, forums on topics such as camping, RVing, AutoMags and the like to compair issues, rants, raves. Then give it a couple weeks to all settle in. You're expectations may have been out of line by expecting a flawless Toyota (as mine was), this process will put a smile back on your face again. |

| Always, Tony!!....Thanks! Same to you bud! Scout, Thanks for a little different perspective on the issue. I can live with the minor vibration, IF it is not a sign of more serious things to come. I chose the tundra so I could take my family on longer RV'ing trips, so my fear is that I'm going to get 1000 miles away from home in the middle of nowhere and have the transmission crap out on me, thereby stranding my family and placing them in unecessary danger. It does upset me that I spent that much money and don't have a perfect truck, but I do understand about a first model year after a redesign and I can deal with that as long as they make it right. |

| With regard to your second thoughts on buying a Tundra, I would say, "Don't worry". ALL manufacturers have problems and glitches with their first model year releases. With the amount of money involved, plus the corporate reputation at stake, you can bet your last money that Toyota will be on ANY issues with a vengeance of biblical proportions. Just remember, that no amount of R & D or track testing can take the place of the real world. It just takes a little time to sort things out. |
