| 600miles check engine I am new here and my 08 Tundra 5.7's check engine light just came on. I have about 600 miles on it and I was just curious to know if anyone else had something go wrong out of the gate. I will definitely be giving the closest dealer a call tommorrow but was just curious. Thanks. |

| Since your truck is so new and displays no symptoms, I would check the gas cap.You would be surprised how many times a loose or bad fitting caps has thrown a light at you. Unscrew the cap, screw it back in securely and if that is the problem in 20 minutes of driving or so the light will go off.

| Hmmm, loose gas cap is a good suggestion. I know sometimes it's just a matter readjusting a rubber gasket on the gas cap.

| Thanks for the suggestions. I had actually already unscrewed and screwed back the gas cap and then just let the truck idle a few minutes in the driveway then turned it off and restarted it letting it idle again but the light remained on. Thats when I posted the problem. Then we went to go eat about 15 or 20 minutes later and when I started it up the light wasnt on. So I reckon that must of fixed it. Is there a better gas cap that I could buy because I noticed that even when I screw it on till it clicks it spins back and clicks again. So I am wondering if this will be a recurring problem. Thanks again. |

| Hope fiddling with the gas cap solved the problem. As far as it being a recurring problem, I think that it is endemic to most newer vehicles. I have had this occur at least once on every vehicle I have owned in the last 15 years. Each time, just re-securing the cap solved the problem, Oh, I just remembered that bad 02 sensors were the cause one time. I have found that when I called the dealer and told them about the light, the first thing they said to do before bringing in the truck was to adjust the gas cap. This tells me that the problem is sort of "normal" as it has happened in a Ford, Jeep, Toyota(3) and Titan(2). |

| My check engine light came on the same day you posted. The truck had about 1200 miles at the time. I went to the dealer yesterday to get it checked and reset. Jokingly I said I knew what the error code would be, "Don't start my engine and rev so @!#* fast when it is -35 C outside). I have already complained about this and asked the dealership if they could reprogram so it wouldn't do this, can't be done. My opinion is that this high revving on startup will be causing problems for guys like me or ArcticTundra who live in cold climates. Makes sense to me that you don't want to be revving to 2000 rpm at startup when the truck is frozen. Plugging in will help the engine but not do much for components like power steering, AC or transmission In a sense I was correct, the problem was caused by the power steering pressure sensor detecting an overpressure, caused by revving the engine when the oil was so cold and therfore very high viscosity causing the pressure spike. The sensor switch trips and does not reset. Toyota has already come up with a fix (the symptom and not the cause) and new switches will be arriving in a couple of weeks. While I was in the service bay another Tundra pulled in behind me, guess what, exactly the same problem and there was a third waiting outside but I didn't ask why he was there. When I phoned in regarding this the service advisor said they had received several calls. While I'm on the topic of high revs at startup I might as well mention the other problem. When starting in the morning, in the garage, I wait until the revs drop to about 1300 and then back out. The problem is if there is any ice on the cement floor my back wheels are spinning while I am trying to back out. The solution, put it in 4 wheel drive before I park in the garage. A pain but it works.

| Sounds like they need a "really really cold" package in addition to the cold package.
