It sure looked like it had a blue tint to me. I created a new thread with a title that may get someone to answer if they have seen this as well. Would using a 10% ethanol mix cause the smoke to look any different or maybe cause it to smoke more? Thank you for the welcome and the quick response,.

These 5.7 are louder than what we have been used to/ the pistons and engine block are made of 2 diff. Materials. When started the pistons get larger (swell) to fit the cylinder bore size. The piston skirt on the 5.7 is a lot shorter than what we have seen before in a toyota engine. They do this to reduce drag and keep constant temp when running/ it gives a longer engine life/ / i see every toyota that comes through our doors on a daily basis. I have only seen 1 engine concern with 5.7 . This is my 4th tundra, it has been the loudest 1 i have owned, but seeing tundras everyday and listening to other peoples tundras i wouldnt worry about it. Just drive it.

Hello all - I'm also aware of the noise you speak of but I'm experiencing a noise from the engine compartment that mimicks an exhaust leak at the manifold or more accurately, mimicks the noise of a valve train getting ready to blow the hood off my 2008 5.7l 4x4 tundra. The noise just started and the truck has 22,000 miles on it. Its loud, nasty and happens only when the truck is in drive and accelerating and beginning after changing into second gear. The warmer the engine gets the louder the noise and it does not go away. It will not make the noise what so ever if in park and pushing up the rpm's. Oil level is correct, pressure is fine and no check engine light is coming on. There seems to be no performance issues either and gas mileage has been consistant since I bought it new. Taking truck to the dealer soon so I wanted to post this before I did in hopes someone could enlighten me w/ a possible explanation. Thanks.

cjcanu01 - Welcome to the forum also. No idea on that noise - let us know what the dealer says.

Howdy top both RONSTER and cjcanu01, and welcome to TTZ. Glad to see both of you found us and hope you'll stick around and join right in. Each of you should also consider posting over in the New Members forum, telling us a little about yourselves and allowing everyone to more formally welcome you!

My 07 has 112,000 miles and still makes that same noise. Just in case yall were wondering if it stopped at a certain mileage.

Any update on what is causing this noise? I have an 08 double cab, 16K miles, took it on a trip from NJ to MI to St.Louis then home to NJ during the holidays and experienced that same noise. You described it perfect. Dealer says no issues, but it has occurred again on a few occasions. I was wondering if it was a knock from poor gas? Noise happens when accelerating at speed, engine fully up to operating temp.
