I did find a troubleshooting procedure in the manual, and it appears that the ADD actuator motor is dead. Toyota Naperville, IL has the assembly in stock for $370 USD. Getting this thing off without dropping the diff is going to be a bear. Getting it back on with the wet gasket replacement will be even harder. The upper left bolt is not visible or touchable. Transfer case actuator is working as expected.

I've heard of people unbolting the front diff mounts without removig the half-shafts and lowering it on a floor jack. Not sure about the drive shaft. If anyone out there has done that, please give your opinion on this move. I do not have a good work area, so this job needs to be done in a day's time. I depend on this vehicle weekly, so failure is not an option. Removing the shafts to replace this part will simply not be possible in my current situation. Dang, I miss my old 3 car garage.
