2008 TRD Suspension

I just purchased a new 4x4 Crewmax with the TRD package (not my choice but it's what they had on the lot). I was initially looking at the standard CrewMax SR5 4x4 and lifting it to make room for the 18" 33's I've had on other trucks. Plus it would take care of the nose dive look on the stock truck.

My question is the TRD package looks like it raises the stock suspension a bit. Am I going to gain much by doing a 2 1/2" lift (was looking at the Rancho Quicklift) and gain the extra space I was looking for? Also, anything else I need to be aware of on changes to the suspension?

I do tow a large 16' v-nose featherlite totalling about 2.5 tons, so I don't want that dramatically affected. This truck kicks ass over anything else I've had for a combination of towing and good unloaded highway ride.

I know the headache of finding some decent wheels and have now located a couple styles that will work.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Welcome to the group.

I don't think the Bilsteins in the TRD package raise the Tundra. They might a little since they are a little stiffer suspension. I don't know if anyone has measured the two and compared.

You will be able to fit the 33s on the truck after the lift. Actually, I think the 33s will fit before the lift. You might consider doing a differential drop, but they say it's not necessary with a 2.5" lift. The bigger tires will effect the towing a little, but not much since they are 33s.

Thanks Tox! Just trying to get this thing squared away. the lif is not so much for performance, I drive about 45,000 miles a year with my trucks, it's for appearaces. I think the lifted Tundra's I've seen look better proportioned.

I'll try those Rancho's and post some feedback. Neer been a huge Rancho fan, but the choices are still pretty limited for a smaller suspension lift. Kinda learnin as I go. This sights already been a huge help in getting up to speed.

You could try OME coils and then put in the longer shocks of your choice (or use theirs). Might be a nice alternative.

Thanks! I just noticed I put 33's and I meant 35's. I think they'll fit with a sight lift & level.

I appreciate the help.

35's will fit after the lift. You might have to trim or bend the edge of the skid plate.

Thanks for all the info. Based on the threads and positive reviews I opted for the Truxxx 3" front 1" rear levelling kit. Overall it appeared this was a proven way to get the extra clearance with the least amount of issues. Also talked to my mechanic and he stated the same pluses the forum had.

I believe you did the Truxxx install. How many miles and how do you like it? I rack up about 45,000 miles a year and wear is an issue.

I also did the Truxxx, I now have 7500 miles with the Truxxx on (17500 total miles on the truck.)

I recently checked the ball joints and CV's, everything looks great. I do not have any additional wear what-so-ever.

I really like the lift, and from what I am hearing about the ToyTec sagging over time, I am glad I chose the Truxxx.

mxsjw,
Good to hear! I see you're running the BF Goodich TA KO's. I ran those on my Ram in the 20"; They wore extremely well.
How's the 305/65R18 fit? Thinking about these versus the 35's. I'm hoping for a little less trimming of fender lining or skid plate. Any pic's?
