My issue though isn't tow weight, it's cargo capacity and the hitch weight is part of that. The Tundra will run out of cargo capacity long before most people run out of towing capacity with it.

You could measure the WDH contribution by weighing each axle individually. Weigh them without the WDH and then weight them with the WDH installed.

This is the stuff that drove me insane and made me ultimately just say "Screw it!" and buy my Cummins powered 1 ton (Same price as the Tundra I was looking at back in 07 just more truck). Now I don't even wonder if I can tow or haul it, I just do it.

If you really want to know the difference between a 1/2, 3/4 or 1 ton truck, park the two side by side and look at the rear differentials and that's the kicker and can't be worked around with springs. shocks, tires or wheels.

With that said, people drive overloaded (I did) all the time because who can justify driving a 1 ton truck when they only tow or haul a few times a year?

Now let's see the Tundra's diff in comparison.

The Tundra has a huge rear differential for a 1/2 ton. The differential and the rear axle are definitely not the weak points.

Top right is the new Tundra differential, bottom right is the old Tundra differential.

The picture is from the following link. They do a good write-up on the Tundra's rear end compared to others. They say it's comparable to a Dana 70 or a GM Corporate 14 bolt.

Compared to what, other 1/2 ton trucks? I'll see if I can find a Tundra to park next to and shoot a picture.

yeah, a tundra differential really won't compare to a dually differential. But we don't have to watch to make sure our tires don't damage other vehicles with them sticking out. If you are regularly towing several tons, then a heavier duty should be considered. Since over 50% of the people here rarely if ever towed a ton, why put up with the extra capacity.
There are lots of 1 tons being driven that rarely carry more than the driver.

Dodge Ram 2500s come with either a 10.5" or 11.5" rear ring gear and a 9.5" front ring gear. The Tundra comes with a 10.5" rear ring gear and a 8.7" front ring gear. Your Dodge looks like it has a 11.5" ring.

Thats the plan. I should be able to get this done in November.

The physics of a WDH tranfsfer some of the tongue weight to the front axle, distributing the weight over both front and rear axles on the tow vehicle.

You can increase spring rate to prevent sagging or bottoming and you can go to a higher load range tire, but the axle is only rated to carry "X" amount of weight.

The numbers being discussed here are very minor; probably ok as is. Manufacturers generally design in a safety cushion when they generate rating numbers, figuring the average owner will probably overload without even realizing it.
