ATV in the truckbed

Wasn't sure where to post this since it technically isn't a question about towing.............but has anyone transported an ATV in back I measured and it looks like it will fit width-wise.

I have a HONDA Rubicon. Don't think it will fit with the tailgate up though.

I put my Yamaha Grizzly in the bed of my truck all the time. Course, I have to haul it with the tailgate down since I have a CM.

If you have a DC, and you are really close to the length (inches), try using some car ramps to raise the front of the ATV up and that might give you the couple extra inches you need to close the tailgate. something like these should work:

There was a post awhile back regarding the thin metal used to cover the inside of the tailgate. They hauled with the rear tires resting on the tailgate and it pounded some pretty bad dents into the metal. It was probably a 5.5' CM though.

Yes they did have some tailgate issues with it not being supported enough. And is it just me, or are like maybe half the tundras I see have tailgate damage? Maybe due to the fact people haul things on their CM through the window and resting on the tailgate.

I saw a CM going down the highway yesterday with a Honda (don't know what model) in the bed...taligate up. They had a pillow between the front of the ATV and the rear window. It's something I personally wouldn't have done but it did fit.

Thanks for the input everyone. Tox looks like my ATV is a little less than 2 inches longer than your Grizzly. Getting those ramps looks like a no-brainer to me.

I haul my Polaris Sportsman 700 X2 in the back of my CM, whilte towing my travel trailer (well, I did before I bought my toy hauler).

I removed the tailgate completely, and put a 6x6 post across the back bumper to bring it up level with the box floor. (can't turn the trailer with the tailgate down).

It's a hell of a way to tow.. the tires on my atv (47"x96") hit my propane tanks when i turn.. heh
